Q ASSIST III Tells Leader He Will Take Up Suffrage Question With Congress. WASHINGTON. Dec. 7. Tres't YVilsoa Monday promised to take up the rmesion of nation-wide woman s jffrat-e with the leaders of congress. For the ijr.st time .since deputations of suffra Ki;ts have waitetl upon him at the white houe, the president did not invad. the issue by referring to states rights. In his reply to the two California women envoys, the president regretted that it was too late to include the suffrage in his message to conuiess Tuesday. Then he added significantly that he would take the KroaPsst pleasure in conferring in the most serious way with his eolleafues at the other end of the capifol with regard to xvhat is the rijht thinji to do concerning this Kreat matter. INsvcUrs .,(K) S 11 IT rau !!. The president received Miss Frances Jolliffe anil Mrs. Sara Hard Field and their escort of 300 of distinguished suffragists In the east room of the white home. His reception of the envoys was marked by his usual suavity of manner to which he seemed to have added an unusual buoyancy. There wa an Indication, however, that he regarded the mission of the women as a matter of Krave political importance. When the huj;e four-mile petition was partly unrolled before him the president seemed for a moment to be fascinated by the spectacle. He was visibly Impressed by this concrete illustration of the tremendous voting power already in the hands of the women of thus country. To judge by his demeanor he realized that the women .are determined to use thispower, if necessary, even against the administration. Shows Voting Streust Ii. In the course of her impressive appeal Mrs. Field said that the political party which put through the federal amendment enfranchising women would receive the support of the. suffragists. On the other hand yhe intimated that the purpose of the mission was to impress upon the administration the fact that 4,000,000 women would xvithhold their votes from a political party which ignored the enfranchised women's demand for the ballot. Then with tho quizzical smile which has won converts to the cause all along the envoys' trans-continental trip, Mrs. Field added: "We do not come in tears and pleading, sir; we come as the strong voice of a new political factor. In the past you have said that this is a
