Israelii Social Worker Makes An Excellent Ambassador

(Continued From Page 2 dren into the country’s social and cultural life. Matari would like to see more young people from America come to Israel .in cultural exchange programs, and he believes that Israelis can offer something simlar to Americans particularly in t l ie stimulation of Jewish life here. HE SPOKE glowingly of the ways in which Israelis celebrate the Jewish holidays, and said that he believed -such a cultui'al exchange would help to stimulate American Jewish life. A third-generation sabra, Matari is married and has two daughters. He related that the women in Israel do not influence the family in I'eligious matters in the same way as the women in America. There the family does not attend services together on the Sabbath on Friday bights he said, as there is no congregational participation as in this country. "Women in Israel are more active in political parties, and most of them think if they are active outside the home, it will disturb their housework. Modern conveniences and education makes this difference.” Matari feels that one of the Israeli government’s main problem now is the separation of church and state. "Americans think that we should be more religious in Israel,” he said, "but our younger generation doesn’t agree with this.” The young social worker left Indianapolis this week for a review of his visit in Cleveland and then will visit Washington, D. C. and New York City. Next week The POST and OPINION will discuss more of his impressions of America.
