We publish below, the resolves concerninj Slavery, which have been passed by the Legislature of this commonwealth. Several weeks ago, the series passed the llous of Representatives, with ouly four dissenting voices, and these ware ostensibly given, because the resolves were not strong" enough, or on account of sortie particular phraseology. The resolves were sent to the &-n&te, where they were debated and amended, and passed in their present form, by vote of 24 to 4. On Saturday they came to the House sgnin, the amendments of the Senate were concurred in. ami the resolves passed to be engrossed by a UNANIMOUS VOTE. We are therefore justified in proclaiming them the "voice of Massachusetts." Men of all parties voted for them. Whereas. Tbe people of Massachusetts, acting under a solemn sense of duty, have delibetately and repeatedly avowed their purpose to resist the extension of sNvery int th natioi al lenitories, or the admission of new slave Stales into Iba Union, and, for these ends, to apply, in eveiy practical mode, the piir.ciples of lha ordinance of 1787 1 also, to seek the abolition of slavery and th slave trade iu Ihe Dilti ict of Columbia, and the withdrawal of the power and influence of the genetal covernmaut fum Ihe suppoit of slavery, so fsr aa the same maybe emtstiitninnally done and whereas, th impoitnt question now before the countiy, make it desirable that tbe convictions should be re-afSimedi thetefure Rt solved. tiie Declaration i f Inder-cndence. In I lie l.-itigii.ige of Walker, in Lis ir.trinliiclioii t Aniericnn Law, "Women have no vrt or hit in 'he f'rntati'in or administration of il(? Governinent. They can iii it vote nor hold office. Thvy are required to contribute th ir hare, hy way ;f taxes, lo the upP'irt of I ho Government, hut are-aüowed no von e in Its direction. They ar amenable to ihe law when in ide, bn are' a'.lowed im share in making them. Th.s Itnzunge when applied to mah.-s. would be tle exact definition of iMiliticnl slavery." Is it jut or Wim that woman, in the largest and professedly the freest and most enlightened Republic on the globe, in the middle of the Nineteenth Century, should be thus degraded ! We would especially direct the attention of the Convention to the legal condition of married women. Not being represented in those bodies from which emanate the laws to which they are obliged to submit, they are protected neither in person mr property. The merging of woman's name in that f her huaband is emblematical of the fit of all her legal rights. At the marnagu nliar, the law divest her of all distinct individuality. Ulackstone says, the very being or leal exitlence of the woman is suspended during marriage, or et least is incorporated or consolidated into thai cf her husband." Legally she ceases to exist, and Lecotues emphatically a new creation, and is ever after d'-ttted. the dignity of a rational nnd accountable being. The husband it allowed to take possession rf her estates, as the law has proclaimed l.er legally dend. All that she tins becomes legally Iiis, and he can collect nnd dispose of .the profits of her hi Ivor, without !cr consent, as he thinks lit; and she can own nothing, and have nothing which is not regarded b; tlu; liwas belonging lu her hubbond. Over her person he has a more limited power. Still, if he render her life intolerable, so that fhe is forced to leave him, he has the power to retain her children, and "aeize and bring her back, for he has a right to her society, which he may enforce either against herself or auy other person who detains her." (Walker's Introduction, p. 229.) Women, being thus subject to the control and dependent on the will of man, loses her self-dependence, nnd no human being can be deprived of thi without a sense of degradation. The law should sustain and protect all who come under its sway, and not create a state of dependence and depression iti any human being. The laws should not make a woman a mero pensioner on the bounty of her husband, thus enslaving her will, and degrading her lo a condition of absolute dependence. lklieving that woman does not suffer alone when subjected to oppressive and unequal laws, but whatever affects injuriously her interests 'u subversive of the highest good of the race, we earnestly request that, in the new Constitution you are about to form for the Slate of Ohio, women s liall be secured not only the rights of suffrage, but nil the political and legal rights that are guaranteed to men. A Stretcüer of a Chimney. Trie York (Pennsylvania) People's Advocate, onttopa the 'Ro-hestf r Mysterious Knocking? by the following account of a chimney in a house in that borough. If anybody can s?in a more wonderful yarn, we should like to see it: The first discovery that the present occupant of the houe made, was by means of a sweep, whom he had employed lo clean the chimney. It appear that l.e ascended to a considerable distance, when on a sudden, he found his path obstructed by numerous piece of stove pipe, which was drawn into Ihe chimney. Thea pipes were taken piece by piece from the store at different tunes, and no one could imagine where they had gone to, until they were found as above suted. Since the discovery of the pipes nothing is safe in the room. We are informed by tho occupant himself thr.t large pieces of coal are drawn up the pipe into ih-J chimney , and that it is necessary to chiin the oals down in order to keep them in the stove. Chairs, from the extreme end of the room, will walk towards the mouth of the stove, just as if they were desirous of warming their shins; and, in fact, every piece of furniture is moved by the wonderful attracting power of the chimney. Even the carpet, which had been nailed down unusually fast, was torn up, nails and all, by the mysterious power ; had it not been for the treinendout exertion of the owner, they would have Leen up the chimney. The children are very often in the greatest danger, as the power is so great that even they are drawn toward the stove. Cats are no circumstances when they venture into the room, as their struggles are very short before they are sailing through the pipe into the chimney. A " Nigger's' Idka of High and Low Duties. Tho following dialogue took place between two negroes, iu Chart res street, on Sjturdiy. One of them wnt at the mom lit engaged in the very elevated vocation of a chirnnsy-sweep, whilst the other was driving an invalid pony, and lustily bawling out'Su-a-ar Ca-ane!" Hih ! Yah! yah! yah!" said Dick, and he added, "wall, Stin, you is what elder Jones, our preacher, calls a fusj rate logiririan. I owes you dat dolla', euah!" Thk President and the Whig Party. The National Intelligencer, alluding to the complai.it in some of the Wlirr papers that the President and hia Cabinet do not consult and advite with the Whig party in their appointments to office, says: A part of the Whig party intiets on an indiscriminate and entire proscription and change in the officers of the Government; while nnother part utterly oppose; this as wrong in itself, and inconsistent with Whi profesf hn.i. Whenever any appointment is to be made, theto is, in the Whig party, an uncompromising controversy prosecuted, as t'i what State shall have it it, what declioit of the State, and what das cf the various subdivisions of tho party in the different Slates. No sdvicu can be oroduced which is not Ihus conflicting ; and no appointment ran he made but wou'd be ui:tatirifactory to Ihe greateot number; and hence they complain that their advire and influence is not sought and followed br tiie Preaident or Cabinet. This is brought up by the Whig papers, and is repealed and even made a matter of complaint and charge aaint the Executive by prof eased friends.
