MACHINISTS MAY STRIKE.
Their Oemanda Have Not Been Grant* cd by Thefr Employers. The members of the local lodge of the Inlernatioual Association of Machinists are holding frequent meetings to discuss how to enforce the demands that were made on the shops', over a month ago, and which they said should go Into effect Wednesday of last week. The owmera of the shops seem to have taken no notice of the demands, and It Is stated that there is some discord among the members of the union aa to whether or not a strike should be declared. The machinists had demanded that none but union men be employed in the shops, and It was this clause that the employers were most bitterly opposed to. Another clause specified that fewer apprentices; should be employed In the shops, and It | was also demanded that the hours be shorter, ami that an Increase In pay, averaging 2\* cents an hour, be granted. The employers say that they will refuse to accede to these demands. The members of the union say that there Is no discord over the demands that have been made, and that a number of the employers have agreed to the demands. They say they will strike only as a last resort. LIGHTNING STRUCK BARN.
