Ira Miles, who robbed aa actress at tbs Brunswick hotel two yean ago, and was aeat to tbs prison' north, was returned to this city Saturday evening, and forwarded to Troy, O., to aMwer a charge of forgery. The reside nee of John B. Powers. 227 South New Jersey street, was raided by a thief, Saturday sight, who eaeured entrance by catting through n screen door, and carried offs gold watch and some jewelry. The brisk tenement. 283 and 285 South East street, owned by M. K. Fatont aad occupied by the families of Joseph Flynn and Benjamin Hamilton, was damaged by fire Saturday evening. Leas la exeesa of $200. Mrs. Susan L. Sweeney is see king a divorce from Wiley K. Sweeney, of Pike townnbip, alleging marriage in 1862 and abandonment six years ago. There is a large family of children, of which the yonngeet is fourteen years of age. Mary Fowler, released from tho reformatory on a ticket of leave, to go to her home in the southern part of toe atate, 1* reported to have been seen in this eity, dreesed in male attire, aad aa order haa been imued for her return to the reformatory. George Howe, of Coast Point, was brought to this eity Saturday afternoon and was committed by the '‘little commissioner,” on charge of oounterfeittng. He ia accused of manufacturing one dollar pieoea, and the dice, ate., are said to have been found in hi*

room.

The ontbrashed ehocked wheat in a tonacre field, near the German orphan asylum, was dcstroyad by fire yesterday, the mischief originating from sparks from a Belt engine, aa ia supuosed. All the neighbors turned out to fight the flames, but could not prevent the damage. The Brighton bench resort was largely patronized by the tough* yesterday, and it continues an nicer of the worst description. Neither the police authorities nor tbe sheriff seem to give this place taneh attention, and a bloody murder will soon mark the orgies at this point. Mr. T. F. Ryan ia preparing to open an overall manufactory on Sooth Meridian street which will give employment to fifty women. Improved appliances for running •caring machines by steam will be need. Preparations are being made to begin work within a short time. Joseph Scott (colored) reaidieg 123 Rhode Island street, Saturday night went home in a quarrelsome mood, aad making a pretext that suffleieat food bad not been cooked for •upper, he assaulted hie wife, knocking her down and kicking her, aad finally throwing her throogh a window. The woman was badly injured. There was a picnic at Maywood yesterday, aad on tha return train roughs attempted a general disturbance and caused considerable contusion among tbe passengers. After reaching the city limits some of the hoodlums discharged their revolvers from tbe window, increasing tha aiann, hot they left tha train on tha approach of a patrolman. The Haofhvilla people are deeply interas'ad ia the proposal to widen Michigan street, west of the race, and it is understood that snbsoriptions will be made for that purp so, if may guarantee of aid can be secured from the county commissioners. The street, as it now mauds, is aot only toe narrow, bat in MVoral places it ia unsafe, and dangerous accidents have not bean antireir averted. If the electric road to eonuect Haughvilla with Woodruff 1 Place ia built, it alone will require sixteen feet of roadway, and as tbe street now stands it dots aot average in width in exceea of twenty feet. ▲ SALOON MOBBKD.

The Vtftagers Sally and Destroy It Wltk Bowlder* aad HUuge Hammers.

There was an exciting time last night at Wilkinson, on the line of tho I., B. A W. road, in Hancock county, growing out of the mobbing of a saloon ran by William Wilson, and which was established in that village about three weeks ago, very much to the chagrin and oppoaition ot the batter sentiment of the community, which claimed to be ignorant that Wilson contemplated any such investment. Tbe saloon, last night, was in charge of John Robert Wilton, n cousin of the proprietor, and when the mob, numbering seventy-five or one hundred persona, began battering the front windows end doors, using bowlders and a piece of timber, he fired one shot from his revolver, hoping to inttmidtto tbe assailing party. Tbe rose foiled to work. After the mob entered, the pool table was broken with a sledge hammer, and the counter and bar fixtures were similarly served, and many of the bottles containing liquors were also a ashed, but still considerable oi the stock escaped demolition. Tbe lees to Wilson will reach $200, aad the damage to the building is probably abont $50. The latter is the property of Joseph Grey. It is said for Wilson, that had he known the sentiment ot tbe village, he would not have undertaken the bustness, and that had he been present last night some one would have gotten hurt, as he is a determined fellow. Parties from Wilkinson report that’on Saturday night several persons wore ejected from the saloon, going away vowing vengeance, and they are inclined to think the attack was instigated by ibis class, and not by those opposed to the saloon from n conscientious standpoint.
