A Wet JBlanKet. [New York special.)
The publication of the letter of Mr. Tilden in reply to the committee of the convention which nominated Grover Cleveland was evidently planned to have 1U effect upon the Ohio campaign. As euch It may be set down ae a lamentable failure. Atthe rooms of the national democratic committee the letter was variously commented upon. A well-known democrat said. “I had hoped to see a letter that would Inspire the canvass with new life, snd which would say a good word for the ticket.” “Another significant point to my mind,’’ he added, “Is the ah sence of anything in the letter like a prediction of success. You may have observed that Mr. Tlldeu in previous letters of this character has not been slow to hazard a pre diction of success when he has considered H reaeonab’y certain. There Is no such expref sion tn this letter. It Isa cold, wet blanket from date to signature.” Warned Against Forgery. The republican national committee has issued a warning to their constituents that the democrats and independents have prepared and will publish about Saturday next on the eve of the Ohio election charges of bribery against Blaine, together with allege ttoos as to th# receipts aaJ other proof*
