PEBSONAL XSM SOCIETY. . All society and rr tonal notes for the Sunday iivuecflhe Journal, to secure publication, mutt le in the hands cf V.e city tailor by Saturday noon. . Stout women complain that fashions aro All created for their sisters of slender form, and a glanca through the papers and magazines devoted to fashion show that there is ground for this complaint. No one ever sees a fat woman used as a subject for showina off the latest fancy in frills or furbelows. The shoulder cape was not made for a abort, dumpy figure; nor were tne little toques nor Rembrandt shapes presented to -view for the first time surmounting the head of a woman with no necic to spwak of. Yet women of all sizes and builds aro compelled to array themselves in a gatbof tome sort, and the overwhelming majority prefer the latest mode, from bonnet to shoes. The very last bit of paraphernalia, over which the feminine mind lingers, heeitatej and finally succumbs and purchases, is the feather boa. This bit of finery was manufactured expressly for a woman whose long, thin neck and slender, sloping shoulders were a constant annoyance to her. The soft, looae feathers filled the hollow space at the nape of the neck, rounded the outline of snarp shoulders and covered and relieved the angles from bonnet to belt, and the awkward pole npon which her head was set was conspicuous no more. When my thin lady appeared in publio, no longer an awkward, angular figure, but one of rounded outline, she looked so much improved that everyone who saw her felt bow Vastly becoming such a graceful garland of softness was. Forthwith the first manufacturer found his business increasing. Othcrsenvied his success and began to make an Inferior article. Then Mr. Kconomy thought that there were a great many women who would like a bit of feather abont them, bnt had no 10 or 810O to buy the luxury, so he cut the ends oil and made just a length fur the neck. The more he cut otx the more ho wrecked the Brace and beauty of the feather boa, but it hindered not the sale thereof. To-day the craze is the boa, and th fat, dumpy woman is sure to have one. bbe was round in the first place, but now with a wreath of plume de coque. she is a lesson in well-rounded curves, with merely a slight indentation to show where one ends and another begins. Bhe bnries her head in the garniture, and she is at once incog. So one can possibly know their best friend from any side, unless perchance it 6hould be face to face. The two-and-a-half or throe-yard length feather boa on a graceful, slender woman accentuates her grace, on a stout woman it spoils both. Tenons! Mention.
