Hawkins gave a large evening reception in hono r of the latter'a sister, Mrs. E. J, Foster, of Wichita. At an hformal tea given last week the party of ladies discussed a very common subject dress and of courso considerable it a 4 sale One visitor told of a comfortable costtne which she knew was worn by a lady in Chicago, who was an expert stenographer and whoso business took her out of doors t great deal. It consist of a foil suit of back tights, a divided skirt and a dress, th latter not touching the ground - by threeinches. In this raiment she is perfectly fee, looks the same as any ordinary well-drsed woman, and is not conspicuous in ny sense of the word. The chief comfort to betaken with this style is the - fact tlat the woman is perfectly free. She cocs not fear a rainy day or a randiy street, her dress escapes all soil at the fcot and she does not appear in the ttitale of th5 woman who holds her dress up inone hand, her umbrella and packages in tba other, and then gets a drabbled skirt after alb After the disenssion those present thought It wonld add to the convenimco of women if they wonld follow dresi reform as far as to have the walking dreei made shorter, and do away with tho awarkness of holding it np. Having one shoulder considerably lower than the other coull be thus avoided.
