Hannegao, formerly U. 8- Senator from Indiana, whertun the said gentlemen pretends to aay that he was oat here in ihn Territory . ami Judge Law aaya of said Hannegao that he ia a gentleman of the highest character. 4o far Judge L tw ia correct, because 1 always heard people say Mr. Hanne in wa very high, bat about hit tales ts, honor and integrity I will pro duee hie own letu-r, with some remarks. Mr. Hannegan lays: "the first cause of trouble hero was the un juaii6able attempt of eastern capitalists, through the Emigrant Aid (tool ety, toengroes tbe most valuable land in the Territory solely for purpo of private sp culation." Now Mr Hanaegan, dont you think that the people of Missouri have done the same set, and had a better opportunity to do it than eastern speculators? Do you think the people of Missouri would stay at home and see these Yankees take the beat parts of the eoantry in there neighborhood? Mr. Hsnnegnn, ui jut the cohtiary of what you aay, because the Missourians were two month in advance 'if the eastern folks, anU they overrun the Territory, and took the best claim before any of these Yankees came out here, and a to speculation in towns. I would ask you, who laid out the town rf Lecomp ton and are the Stockholders not Misouriant? Who laid out the town of Tticumseh and who are the Stockhol ders, even the money of tbe United States is tobe used and there are many other towns of the same character, I have seen some ignorant Missourian who say and wouM ev aar to it, that thi T-. riiory belongs to Missouri, and i hat people from free Stales have no business here, and a to these f faj or counterfeit claim these eastern people would make, as you say, it is perfect ly impossible; because it iaa settled law by Congres, to prohibit such actions, and every settler is to be sworn aa to hie intention, and falsa swearing would nut do, because every neighbor would detect him, and aa to this eastern people, as you say coming bore for the purpose of merely to vote and return, after election, it is impossible and too expensive, but if you can find anv body in Indian, to believe snob, i toil s I huve nothing more to say about it, your whole letter i a fuhrt caced falsehood, and I cm prove it, except what you say about Atchison. L eomptot, S.nngfellew dt Co. These men I dont know, and their neighbors ire the best judges. Your statements about Heeder are very easy to contradict, because the Miasouriana did not like him before he came out here, because he waa not a southern man, and shortly after he was here, the people of Missouri which same out here to rote, intended to molt him, at Tecum sah, at the first of Witfitdd's election The plan waa detected by Reeder' Secretary, and Heeder had to leave in the evening, and went over the prairie without a road. Mr. liannegan, you commence your history of Kansas a good deal too late. You tay nothing about the commencement, you say some of the Abolitionists in the Tern torv have perpetrated the most cruel

named Dow, was killed first, and then Barber from Ohiu. and then Brown from your own State of Indiana, and that these men were all killed in a moat ctucl and shocking manner, and that no blood was shed of any antislavery m in before all these outrages were committed? Now look at it ami see which, of the. parties actad in retaliation. My letter ia already too long but I must say a little more about Mr. HanOKgnn letter, because it is such a remarkable document, for the people to look at, ami they ean see how ibis gentleman and his paty he wants to aerve, atanda, how tlu-y intend to blind the people from the truth. But it seems to nn th i these boys were brought heru by Col. Mr. Editor; There ia an adage tha aays: "Straws tell which wsy the wind blows.' Circumstance of late impress its truth upon me. Resd the" following: "FROM WASH I rati TON. M Wash i koto m, June 20. boih organiaatious, and can apeak calmly of each, We purpose to oH'er a lew impartial remark about the apirit manu .Nied at both ratifying conventions, as indicative of the fate of ti e two tsslteta in ibis rity next full. In tna tiret place, it rar. not bu df nicd that the Republicans manifest far more enthusiasm Ulm tliur Opponent, and appear to be actuated by mach warmer aentimeots in approvnl of tbeir platform. The Democrata ppcar to ua to roly upon thu prestige of their former victories, and to think it unnecessary to make any very great efToit in order to carry the State. The Republicans, on the contrary, beim; u new orgaoi sation, are full of life, spirit and enthusiasm, and anplaud lo the echo t ery allusion lo the planks in tbeir platform. Besides this, the Republicans have largely the advantage of their opponent on the groat exciting question of the day in this talc an interoeeanie railway. This bein a local measure, ao far as California is concerued, and one which, more than all others, would if adopted, advance her prosperity, com mauds the sympathy of the true Callfornian heart, and makes it throb responsive to every act that v ill hasten ita completion. 4 " jU Of one thing only are we confident in the approaching contest, and that is that the K. N with Fillmore at their head, will be o utterly xiermmateil lhat Governor Johnson will bu regarded ss a sort of natural curiosity alter the 4th of March, and, like Uncas. will be i he. last of the Mohicans. i i a a q pi - a. thi j ii Prospects of tha Campaign Iowa in the Van of Victory. The Iowa emotion bung the first in the campaign of 1 8ö, atiords us m opportunity of reviewing the battlefield and marking the position of the combatants. We have information enough to know lhat Iowa has given the Republican nbout b.O(K) majority. That this fact is a must significant one will be known by referring to two oiher facts. The lirst is, that in the great Anti-Nebraaka etorm of 1354 the highest majority on thn Anti-Nebraska ucket in Iowa was 4.VJ0. In 1366 the Hepublicans lost the whole of it. Now Iowa gives majorities beyond anything ever known in the State. If this be the cate, what will happen

in Illinois, Michigan, and other NorthWestern Slates, nil of which went Anti-Nebraka in 185? It requires no prophet to foretell events in the North-West. Another fuel equally sinificant, is, that Iowa is settled rrincipally from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Union and Indiana. Her population then shows, in this election, what i the real sentiment of the motb r States. It is the debrmined senti ment of Freedom, whi. li. outraged beyond all endurance, has determined to endure no inure. Another fact we may add. that in Dusmuinea Count) the Republicans jot double as many German votes as they expected, a sufficient evidence that tbiti class of voter can no longer bo deceived by false professions of Democracy. Iowa has uiven but the tirht sound in that

roll of popuhr thunder which will b"

heard tn the campaign of 185G. Cin
