A petition, signed bj divers citizens, relative to filling up the canal and de- 1 daring' it a nuisance, was read and ordered to be handed to the City Attorney, likewise a professional opinion of a numbar of physicians of this city about the matter. The public cistern on Fulton Avenue , and Second street being reported out of repair, councilman Schmutte was authorized to have it put in a sound condition. , A petition, signed by sundry citizens, ' for an extension of Third street culvert, , was referred to a committee of council- ' men Cook and Dean. A bill of damages against the city, MCKOtod by C. Clements, agent for A. R Carpenter, was referred to a commit- : tee on'clairns. Owners of property abutting alley, i situate between Third and Fourth streets, j from Main to Sycamore, were allowed 8 ! per cent on their obligations paid to the contractors. The contract for raising the alley situate between Main and Sycamonr streets and extending from Second to Third streets, was awarded to Arnold & Knhn. the lowest bidders. Several sidewalk reports were also received, and the contractor, J. Mclneruy, was allowed the contract price for doing the work. Adjourned to meet Tuesday next J I Tuesday Etemxg, Sept. 15, '63. On motion of Councilman Schmutte a order passed to pave alley situate between Main and Sycamore, and extend-1 ing from Third to Fourth street, was, and mt& order is, hereby rescinded. The bills for the construction of LoCWt street sewer were then examined, and the contract awarded to Bedford & Allen, they being the lowest bidders. And ordered, that agreement and bond be prepared and rned by Saturd J 'evening next Elijah Perkins, steam fire engineer proposed to the Council that he would repair and fit up the steam fire engine nouse for a dwelling at his own expense jrovided the Council would allow him to ccupy it one year as his residence, the council to repair or renew the roof if .
