MlHcellaneouH. River news was very scarce yesterday morning, the heavy fog of the night previous preventing any arrivals The Phantom came in yesterday morning with a good trip of freight and passengers, including 50 hhds of tobacco, and much miscellaneous freight The Newsboy had a fair trip from Henderson The Argosy left at noon with a very light trip for Pittsburg. Jesse Birdsall went with her, but will return in a few days , Capt. Gus. Lemcke and Capt. J. V. Throop left for Cincinnati by rail, yesterday morning, on business We were shown, on Monday, the pattern for the new smokestacks of the Armada. They will be beau ties The Phantom, after unloading yesterday, dropped down to the bone-yard to pump out a barge ....The J. P. Webb arrived at one o'clock yesterday with a fair trip, and large orders to our merchants She will return to-day. Among her pas sengers were Capt. Hodge Brown, portly as ever, and Tom. Wilson, her former popular clerk The Darling, from Cincinnati to Memphis, arrived at 1J o'clock with a good trip on self and barge. Cincinnati.- The Commercial of Monday says: ,, : The weather, yesterday, was mild and genial, with the mercury at 70 . At Pittsburg, the river is falling, with two feet in the ehannel. The Kanawha Is stationary, with 25 inches in the channel. Here the river has fallen 4 Indies duiiii ;le p.st iii hours, with 8 feet on the shoalest bars hence to Louisville. There Is 6 feet In the canal. "" " Louihvillb. The Courier of Monday says : i I f 11 U 'iff ) The rfvf edntlifnesH)"fa'll steadily at all ppints, with 4 feet 6 ;nches water in the canal last evening bv the mark. During the previous. 48 hours it had fallen 4 inches at the head of the tails, and 12 inches at Portland. The late cool weather is gradually turning to summer heat again, the thermometer getting up in the seventies, and quite likely to reach eighty tb-day. There has been no rain for nearly a week and the streets and thoroughfares are extremely dusty. Onth- falls last evening there were 3fJ. inches water in the pass down the Indian chute, and falling. The Democrat of Monday .says : On Tuesday evening an ojdinauce passed its second and final reading in the City Council of Memphis requiring steamboat runneis to pay a yearly tax of $100, and to prove themselves good, honest, straightford and upwright men. Hays, of the Louisville Democrat, accuses as of stealing one of his items. He must be mistaken, we can't appreciate such stuff as daily appears in his river columns, called poetry. People living in glass houses should not throw stones. Evansvllle Courier. We accused you rightly. You did steal one of our items. We are not Hays by a good deal, only a "sub;" and wedon't write poetry, but we do occasionally get up a good original river item, a " right smart Beep" more than you ever do, Mr. Courier. St. L0UI8. The Democrat, of Monday, says': The river has fallen six inches since Saturday. There isagood stage of water in the Illinois throuith to Lasatlo. While the present wuter holds, most of the corn along the stream will go northwa:d. Freight is abuudaut fox St. Louis, along the Tower partof the river. Matters are not in condi tion yei lot ouusiue uuam 10 go 111. im river is falling rapidly from Keokuk down, with four feet on the lower rapids. The Missouri is stationary, with four and a half feet to St. Joseph. Business is bound to improve at the usual time, and continues flat just now. Weatiier very pleasant, but warming up again. We are informed that a Mackinaw boat, one of those roomy barges used by Indians and voyagers generally, away up about the Rocky Mountains, arrived here yesterday morning, completing its voyage of some 3,000 miles, from the wreck of the steamer Marion, and having as passengers the officers and crew of that steamer. We never, till now. knew of one of these craftecoming so far down, although it is not unusual to see them at St. Joseph, to which point they come from the mountains when the" water Is too low for steamboat navigation. Mkmphis. The Appeal of Saturday says : Since our last, the weather has taken one of the strangest feats known to the " oldest inhabitant." The thermometer, howe BT, said it was " tempeiate," but the masses thought it cold ; and as far as our observation extended, this temperate state of the weather produced very different results on the levee.

Business was unusually dull for Friday, and the levee was almost deserted by the loafers, for once. The liver Is llsing steadily, and since our last report lias risen three Indies. The Arkansas is still 'ailing, but the channel is cutting out flaely.and there is noV 32 inches in theehannel, as reported by the officers of the Gleaner. TRANSPORTATION.
