Mr. lirown. after a brief visit to Jackson county, will return to the field of hi labors in behalf of the liberties of the people of Ohio. A Vindication or Porter Okntleven The Journal is down upon our indefatigable and wonderfully fflicient police in its issue of yesterday. We seldom pay attention to what tht lyins print says, every one connected therewith having his own sins to answer for. (and they hid better be getting down on their marrow !n.ne-.) but we can not suffer our?elve quietly to observe such a noble bod? of men r.s compose the metropolitan midnight guardian of our lives and lib erties. and the lives and liberties of our wires and daughters, vituperated. villified, apotrophized and a.sailed and made to feel uncomfortable by language mich a only a learned, classic and inebriated gentleman, who recently has been re leased by them, saving him fine and costs, could use. We protest emphatically against all such proceedings. How can a "cuss" w ho reels home every night be so ungrateful? We can't see into it. Ar.EKsr ok Counter run. r.s The two men arrested at Terre Haute, noticed in our pper the other diy, had with them only $31)0 of raided notes instead of the fabulous eura we named. Oir informant was correct in his fct except the amount of money found on the men. The parties arrested were William Montgomery, a soldier belontrins; to the 6.'td teitnent, a uubstitu e for a drafted man, his wile and a small trader named Smith. Smith in evidently the victim of idiarpers and not guilty in intent of passing the spurious notes. Montgomery enlisted "for a phade," thinking he could cany on hi business with grcnter security in the guise of a fohber. The notes found are one taised to tens, and two raided to fifties, and they were so well exe cuted that they would deceive !ilmot any onebut an expert. A quantity of 50 nnd '25 cent pieces of potal currency, and $2'M) and $250 in free bank and State Bank of Iowa money, was also found. The d'acovery of the doing of Montgomery is due to the efforts of Mr John Beaucamp. a sharp detective, and the arrests were made by Charte Kern, Sheriff of Vigo courty. On the arrival of the prisoners here, Mont gomerv waved an examination and was commilted'in default of $1.000 bail.
