Cincinnati and war mail Thronen mail Terre Haute way, Kvaiisville and YinceDnes. Peru Bll"foritaitie war and through STATUTES OF IXDIAXA. (iAVI. V IKltI'S ItCVISlO'. The hecad volume of Messrs. Gavin & Hord's compilation of Indiana Statute has just appeared. This vtdume couiplcte their work. Its mechanical execution is ver crediUMt; and the skill, learning, and labor which the Mitors have bestowed on it, merit the highest praise. None but l-arnei, diligent lawyers could have produced buch a work. The second volume embraces all the public statutes of Indiana now in force upon the subjects to which it relates, and the first all excepting the acts of the la'-t regular and xtra wsiinii of the Legislature. It is a jrreat excellence cf the compilation that all existing etatutes on each ubje:t are cclfocted t'-gether In tbe frame place in theee volumes; so that tie reader can see at a glance all the legislation In force on any given sulject. Take, for example, the act of 1852, organizing Courts of Common Fleas the editors publith the act at large, and they also print. In the form of notes on the same pages containing this statute, all the act amendatory to it which have been pasnd op to this time. And so they have done of all tbe other acts contained in the revision of 152. The editors have added much to the value cf these volumes especially the lt by the opiou and learned notes with which tbe volumes abound. These notes Indicate much labor and legal acumen. They furnish us, in a concise and accurate form, with all the adjudications of our Supreme Court on these statutes. These adjudications being now very numerous, the references to them in the volume under consideration, will be of great value to the lawyer, and indeed to all persons concerned in the administration of Justice. The editors have alo referred, in their notes, to numerous deciMons in other States, made on statute similar to ours. An excellence of these volumes, not to be overlooked is the full and accurate ir:dx appended to eacli. In Indiana, there never ha been a good index to any volumes of statutes published by authority. Thb provoking defect has b-en completely remedied in the volumes under reiew; ud tbeso Indexe will greatly lighten the labor of all who have occasion to look into oar statutes. This is the first time that prhate enteT-rize bas attempted the publication of Indiana statute. The attempt, I do not doubt, will be successful, and will duly reward the learned editors and enterprising pnblishts. Every lawyer w ill, of course, purchase thee volumes; and every tlcrk, sbi-riff, and justice of the peace of the State, will find it to his advantage to own them. DAVID M' DONALD. Indianapolis, Jnne 5, 162. The foregoing notice by Judge McDo.xald, of Gavi.i A Hord's Compilation cf the Statutes of Indiana, is not designed as a pufT of the work, but in an unsolicited commendation ot the ability, accuracy, and completeness with which these volumes have been prepared. The publication of the work is a private enterprize, and the publishers' only tope fr remuneration is in it sale to thooe for wboe convenience it was prepared. The two volumes contain about 1600 pages of matter, nearly doubl the quantity embraced in the iev:lon of 12. The price of the work is $4 50 pr volume, or $3 00 for the two volumes.
