MARING-HUNT LIBRARY FEATURES BLACK ART THIS MONTH An exhibit of African art will be on display during February at Marion-Hunt Library, 2005 S. High St., Muncie. On loan from Bea Moten-Foster of The Muncie Times, the work includes teak carvings of animals and figures of the African continent. The carvings were gifts from African ambassadors to the United Nations. They include a man on a stool from Joseph Machella of Tanzania, and a carved box from Christopher Cole of Sierra Leone. Foster worked at the United Nations as the first black radio announcer. She is currently owner and publisher of The Muncie Times.
NBC’S “PASSIONS” ACTORS CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY
To commemorate Black History Month, the six African American contract players on the popular NBC daytime soap opera “Passions” have joined hands to record public service announcements that celebrate the achievements of African Americans. The six 15-second spots are being made available to all NBC affiliates. The spots feature all the actors that are involved with the core Russell family—a middle class African American household. The actors, appearing as themselves,are Rodney Van Johnson (TC Russell); Tracey Ross (Eve Russell); Amelia Marshall (Liz Sanborn); Brook Kerr (Whitney
MONTH Russell); Chyrstee Pharris (Simone Russell); and Charles Divins (Chad Harris). In the spots, the actors salute African Americans that have risen to prominence by following their dreams. The subjects of the spots are Sidney Poitier, Marian Anderson, Alex Haley, Thurgood Marshall, Condoleezza Rice and Bill Cosby. The spots carry the theme “Achieve Your Passions.” They are intended to run on NBC stations throughout February. “The PSA campaign is another example of Passions”commitment to diversity and inclusion. Director of Development Minnetrista, East Central Indiana’s Center for Natural and Cultural Heritage, seeks nominations and applications for qualified candidates for the new position of Director of Development. The Director will create a development program from the ground up, including an annual fund, a major gifts program, and a planned giving program. Staffing for the new development department will include appropriate support staff to receive, acknowledge, and steward gifts. Minnetrista creates awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the natural heritage and cultural heritage of East Central Indiana. It is a fourteen-year-old, heritage institution located on a thirty-five acre campus along White River in downtown Muncie, Indiana. Its service area includes 500,000 people. It has 65 employees, 350 active volunteers and more than 1,200 households in its membership program. Minnetrista’s annual operating budget is $3.2 million dollars. Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree with at least five years experience in development and fundraising, sound knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics and practices, demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding fundraising goals, and ability to plan and implement successful annual campaigns.
