ty The citiuns of Fort Wayne are making an effort to have the next State Fair held at that place, at which the Indianapolis tans are beccming indignant.

The people of Fort Wayne are talk

A few refuse to subscribe, and such as do not enter their namee will be sure to "dance attendance" on tbe draft, while those who have paid will organize for mutual protection. The caucus did not recommend, absolutely the reoallo! Mr. Nelson, from tbe mission to Chili, and the appointment of Judge Good" ing in bis place, but that the latter should receive the appointment to Chill, or som«, other appointment equivalent thereto. Tbe Union members of the Legislature did not intend to express any dissatisfaction with Mr. Nelson^but to simply give utterance to their appreciation of the labors of Judge Gooding in the Union oause, and their desire that he should receive a proper recognition of hs .services.

THE ENROLLMENT.—At the time of the dralt a year a^o District Provost Mas-shais were required to publish the Enrollment lists, li was wisely deemed a safeguard to ihe people, inasmuch aa it afforded every citizen liablo to draft, opportun-.ty to repo'tthe oaoies of persona omitted, or what was more important, the names of persons who ought a: to be enrolled. The draft was a novelty tbe people, and thej did not appreciate tho adcaotage which publication of the liata gave them. They were careless, and cousequentiv, wheu they discovered the necessity of responding to tbe calt ibr troops, they perceived th*t the quotas were larger than they thought they should be. For some reason the publication of the rolls last fall, and under the presant call, was not resumed. The people tvre, therefore, ieft with inferior facilities for correcting errors. The lists cannot bo seen by every citizee, and they are, therefore, liable to be iscorrect, to the detriment of community Tins list should be tgaic ..Jt-iiih?*. BURNT CORK IN TROUBLE.—The Burlesque Opera Troupe which opera ted here a couple of weeks since came to a "sudden yank up" at Indianapolis, as we observe by the following from the Journal: 'The performance announced by Bran

The telegraphic communication pub

lished generally in the newspapors, that at a Legislative Union Caucus on the evening of the lOtb inst., that Hon. D. S. Gooding, of Hancock, was unanimously recommended for the appointment of Minister to Chili, in place of Hon. T. H. Nelson, of Vigo, is incorrect. The recommendation given Mr. Gooding was for a position commensurate with his services in the last canvass and was not intended as a recall of Mr. Nelson, nor waa the recommendation unanimous, for thone who declined favoring the recommendation were not governed by a desire to favor or supplant either of the distinguished gentlemen named. But since the two names were connected, the statement that the recommendation was unanimous does injustice to the Representatives from Vige, as they very properly endorsed their fellowscitizen Mr. Nelson, and did all that could be expected or requested in the premises. They also regarded the proceedings as irregular and the action understood as not in opposition to our present Minister to Chili.

THE DRAFT.—There is nothing more trnr than that every one ought tT his share of the burden of the present war. And it is

What sort equally true, shn c.l men who have the welfare of their country at heart—and not from tho teeth out—are willing, and w:li cheerfully bear their portion oi that burden. A man who is truly a patriot, is willing, when it is in his power, to make sacrifices for his country in its hour of need. And though he may be too old, or disabled to do active service in the field as a soldier, yet, when ha has the means, and can assist those who are liable to do military duty he wiil not stay hi* hand, and cry out, I am safe iet those who are liable look uut for themselves. There are men who have plenty of means at their command, who are not liable to the pending draft, and if they were, it would be sa'e to say they would p#y out. There are those too, who have means, who are liable to tbe draft, aed who, if drafted, will put in their substitute There are tnose again, who are liable to be drafted, and who, if drafted, must either go, or give their all for a man to take their place, and some of the latter mutt go, leaving wife and children behind, who are dependant on him for their homes and diily bread. And this too in Vigo county, where, all will admit, there is plenty 01 means and money, if men would do but on« half of what they are able to do, to raise a fund, out of which, all men called tor from this county could be and sent to the field of battle as volunteers. Men who wouid thus enlist, could leava behind them their local bouoty for the use of their families. There is a 0,1 ii now by the proper authority for 300,000 men, and of this number about 400 men mutt go from this county, and about 200 of this 400, mutt go from Harrison Township.

every

This cannot be got around the number muat be filled. 1 the people of Harrison Township will do any where near what they are able to do, every man of tbe 200, can be sent to the army, voluntarily, cheerfully, and willingly- But if they will not, the men called for, are bound to go anyhow, and serve their country for one year, while those wbobave ten thousand times more at stake, remain securely and safely at home, pureusing their businefls. This is not right, nor fair. Especially so, when we could so easily, if all were but willing, pay thoee who go to fight tor oar common country, and pay them well Tbi? can be dpne, and the only question remaining is, bow shall we get out tbe means, tie money, with which to do it This psper contains a notice of a meeting at the
