government ol the tinted States.

We understand that Mr. Hunt's cl lim icain?t the Vinneb:got'S amounts to 10,000 j

dollars Mr. linsbois1 to 7000 dollars, and

Messrs Lockwoods'toGiiOd-dlars, Messrs. KoIettc'' and others unknown. The Potawatamies and Ottoways have sold all the ground to which they have any claim, on both sides of Hock river, including all the land from Mock nvtr to Lake Michigan. The Winnebagoes still retain a small tract of country betw een the Four Lakes, the upper water ot P.ock riv er, Winneb i-

goe Lake, and Lnke Michigan. Thistrart is supposed in many places to abound in copper ore. i The quantity of land purchased of the Potawatamies is supposed to be about 3.000. 000 acres its western boundary being the Mississippi extending from the mouth of Kock liver to the mouth of the Omsconsin about 200 miles, and from the

Mississippi to Lake Michigan, I'JO milej.

And the amount which the Commissiontrs hav e agreed to giv e, is five mills, per acre,

ai.nualtij, during their existence as a dis

tinct nation. The land purchased of the Winnebagoes is about three million, bounded on the west and south by the aforesaid purchases; cast

by Hock and Sugar llivers north by the

Ouisconsin and I-ox Fivers for which the

Commissioners have agreed to pay live mills per acre, annually, (ot 30 years which

is eunal to about 15 cts. per acre.

Thus have the United States obtained

title to .Six .Millions acres of land, abounding w ith lead ore, more so perhapi than any other in the known world. The tract

! is surrounded by navigable waters, and its

climate and soil not excelltd in any part of

the United States, the interior is well

furnished with springs of the jan cst water,

and w ith sites for water power to almost

any extent. Lime and sand sdone can ev

ery w here be found for building and fen cing and timber sutlicient for the purpo

se for which it may be required. Th-:

annuities of 33.000 dollars are to be pai l

in cash, at Prairie du Lhien. 1 bus distri

little of the needful.

We expect hereafter to be furnished with

all the speeches made by the Indians to the Commissioners, and the talks held between

the dilTercnt tribes of Indians, and other

more minute transaction, until which time

w e shall abstain from further remarks up on the treaty.
