WESTERN SUN VINCENNES, NOVEMBER 8, 1834. PROBATE COURT.—An error occurred in my paper of last week; it was the Commissioners court that held its session the present week, and the Probate court for this county, will commence its session on Monday next. VlNCENNES BRANCH OF THE STATE BANK.—If any subscribers for stock in this institution have yet neglected to pay in their quota, they should recollect that Monday the 10th inst. is their last day, and that a failure to comply incurs a penalty of ten dollars upon each share subscribed. At the same time it is hoped that they will not neglect attending at the election for Directors on Tuesday the 11th. This is truly an important matter to them all, and should not be neglected for lijrhl or trivial causes.

The Right Reverend Dr. Bhcte, Bishop of Vincennes, lately consecrated in St. Louis, arrived at his Episcopal residence on Wednesday, November 5th. He came accompanied by the Honorable Bishop of Bardstovvn, Ky. Dr. Flaget, and the Bishop of Cincinnati, Dr. i'urcell. The installation, according to the prescribed forms of the Catholic Church, took place on the evening of his anivul; when after the address of Dr. Floret to the new Prelate and his reply, Dr. Parcel I spoke in English to a numerous and respectable congregation. L. Pub. Ad. ST. JOSEPH'S FEEDER DAM. A report reached us a few days ago that a breach of considerable magnitude had occurred in this important structure, w hich is now in progress of construction. This we arc informed was without sufficient foundation, as the dam has sustained no material injury. The work is now progressing well, and w ill be completed in a few weeks if the weather continues favorable. The water in the river has already been raised nearly 10 feet. A currency which had for years previous ly been banished from circulation, has again appeared, and is already expensively circulated. So far, the effect of the change in Mint value, has been the samo in this country as in France. It has been predicted by some of the friends of the Bank, and of course enemies to the success of tho measure, that the introduction of the new cold coin as a part of our metallic circulating medium will drive from circulation the silver, which now forms a portion of it. It has not had that effect in France two thirds of their metallic circulation is silver now. It will not have that effect in this country we shall always have a full proportion of silver circulating with the gold. But we can tell those gentlemen, who profess so much alarm, and predict such evils to flow from the introduction of gold into our circulating medium, one effect w hich it will have. It will banish from circulation all small notes, whether issued by banks or city corporations. In France, there are no bank notes of a

Battle cf the Thame?. The anniversary of this important victory was celebrated in Indianopolis on the 1th inst. A procession was formed in front of the Man-Mon-IIousc, and proceeded to the Courthouse, where an oration was pronounced by the lion. G. L. Kinnard. A large party afterwards dined together, and several patriotic and political toasts .vere drank, and the evening waspent with the greatest unanimity and good feeling. From the manner in which the celebration was got up, as well as from the general complexion of the toasts, we should infer that the celebration was intended to ad

vance tho popularity of Col. R. M. Johnson. Gen. Harrison, Col. Johnson, and our delegation to Congress were invited to attend. Gen. Harrison declined attending, partly on account of private business, and partly from the manner in which the proceedings of the preparatory meeting were drawn up. Col. Johnson was unuble to attend, owing to his not having received the invitation in time: and the pressure of private business prevented most ot our Congress men from attending. The following toasts were received from the invited guests. By Col. R. M. Johnson -The state cf Indiana.
