their backs, we have it in this apendix. The attention ofliberal men of all parties is asked to a small but overwhelming portion of it not to an exciting piece of declamation, but to a simple record of a transaction, the truth of which no on would dare to deny. It is under date of the 13th of Dec. its&'l, and is a transcript of the proceeding of the board of directors ofihe United .States bank on that davit appears that the government directors having been accused in the manifesto of the ether directors of "errors, misrepresentations, and misstatements," in their assertions respecting the expenditures mado to the proprietors of newspapers and periodical journals, and printers, demanded in justice to themselves and tho public a '-tall investigation and statement of the said account, to at once pnve the correctness or incorrectness of the allegations' They asked that three of the private directors and three of the government directors should form a committee for die purpose of examining the ncouna in question, and preparing a statement of the whole, to be submitted to the public and the stockholders. Could any request bo more reasonable ? U,uld an v nun, eonscions that nought was rotten, h:e denied? Aud voi the hoard, with the exception of the government directors and ono other, refused, not only to consider tho offered resolutions, but to allow a protest to be entered ! This, then, amounts to confessian. The bank stands convicted by its own act; and this triumph ..f justice we owe to the government directors. The bank is utterly confw irided, and a rapid revolution is on foot, even among its lately warmest fricudd. The truthwill ever prevail.

Livr.nrooL, Nov. lU.Thc intelligence from Lisbon, via. 1'almouth, is to the Itli inst. It appears tiiat Don Miguel and his army were in occupation of Santarem a place naturally strong but which h 3 become more so, by means of additional fortifications. It was expected that tho army of Don Pedro would be compelled to retreat to Lisbon. General Stubbs, who commands the Pcdroitc forces in Oporto, in attempting to march upon Coimura, where he ima-oned he would be more secure, and where he learnt the young queen was extremely popular, was unexpectedly attacked by the troops of Don .Miguel, and repulsed with seme loss. It is believed that Stubbs, now that Pedro and his marauders arc after ether game, and tolerably well provided for, will r e starved oat ahog-iht-r. Tiu defeat of rSvubbs in this instance shows that the Miguelitcs have possession of the whole coantry , w ith (he exception of Optvrto and the environs of Lisbon.
