equivocal or entirely reflected. Time, amienanges, should enable members of i ;,llc Jiture to improve p ,1.0 past, rr these not now in power will merit the entire credit. They cannot, certainly, by .Mr. "T" or other scribblers of insect memory, be robbed of credit honestly and ably earned. In relation to the canal :herc is not a "hope"' or ua vision claimed by Mr. K.ving, that experience proelsewhere docs not prove we must and shall realize. Nothing but 'lolly, blindor some worse frailly would for a moment induce any one to doubt this. When the Wabash country had little !.5'renr:th (and when CVen that little was partially tritlcrcd away by the divisions of Knox) to secure the improvement of river, our late .Senator asked and obtained means to construct the canal. lie veil knew there would be union and strength ore len-r, to urj;c the improvement of the river, a;ul th is the state in common with ourselves would be benefitted by the glorious undertaking His "visions, and his 'hopes thus far have been realized. Kvery man now agrees that the work hh u!d alvance. Does this sage Mr. UT.V' remein'ocr when this was not the case v, h -a 'Vnadness' slandered and reviled that Senator for urin it? If "T1' docs not remember if, there is at least one citizen with a clearer head and more retentive memory. "T" is cither iaorantly or wilfully in error when lie says, Ohio will a iiiier make the portion of the canal within her boundaries, nor let any one else do it. The contrary 13 the truth. Ooio has avowed herself willing to assume oar obligation to make that portion of the canal within the limited time, if Indiana will re-lin:p:ish the donation of laud grantel to that part of the work. Or she is willing to charter a company, and Indiana can di-pose of the land and ve-t the am cant in the ttock thus created. And this is the better plan, as we can thus hold a majority of tlie slock, regulate the tolls and share the profits I woaui o;iy s'r;1 1 1 .sf hjrelh it ;ui agi'xcv at tlio cx-Mtisc ft of the fund was courted only a year or s two since, ostensibly to negociate with I n omiaal agent.
