TO THE 1UJHLIO. Pome persons opposed to my election, have made and cifeulatcd many falsehoods one of which, I am advised, merits a public denial, because the names of two of our most prominent citizens arc involved, and tend to give the appearance of truth to the charge. A respectable citizen of Widner township staled in Mr. Wheeler's store, on Tuesday last, that it was generally believed in the upper part of the county, that the Senators Hendricks and Tipton, and I, had each received one thousand dollars as a bribe to conceal Dr. Canbv's defilcation at Crawfordsville. The storm passed in a north-west direction The North Ward market house is levelled with the ground; so is a new brick warehouse completed to the roof, built by major Brant. The Methodist church is unroofed on one side! and otherwise essentially damaged. Ami, generally, all the houses in that vicinity are more or lessinjured. The cupo'aof the Episcopal church was blown off. The rear of the house on Main street occu

We have only heard of the death of one person, a female, who was killed by the lightning; although several other persons received serious wounds. The lightning was very vi? id, and continued with scarcely any inlei mission for the space of halt an hour We fear that the

It apain falls to our lot to record another murder committed in this county on Sunday evening last, on the body ol Mr. John Comer, a very respectable citizen of Rock creek township, by a wan named Cadcr Heron. The circumstances which led to this melancholy affair, as detailed on the trial before Esquire Chapman, are, as near as wc can recollect, the following: On Sunday evening (16th June,) Mr. and Mrs. Comer, went to the house of said Heron, (at the special request of Heron's vife, who, it appears, had separated from her husband on the Friday previous) for the purpose of getting her clothes, and whilst there Comer and Heron had some conversation about a certain bellt which lleron said he had found in the woods, and which Comer alleged to be his. Both parties became angry, and Heron finally made some threats, after which Comer and his wife left the house for the purpose of going home, when Heron followed with his rifle and shot Mr. Comer, the ball entering his body just behind the right shoulder. He then advanced and struck Mr. Comer one cr more blows with his rifle, and he expired in about 15 minutes after he was shot. After remaining some time on the ground, he made off, and was not apprehended until the Tuesday following, vrben he was brought to this place and
delivered to the sheriff. He was com rnittcd to jail to await his trial at the next term of the B.irtholomew Circuit court. Columbus ( la ) Chron.
