from the Louisiana .idxertiser. The following effusion stems to have been written before news arrived of some final proceedings in congress, which in some measure palliate the anti-tariff bill: yet it would be criminal to suppress so fine an expression of patriotic feeling.- The conclusion agrees exactly with the President's Inaugural Speech. Editor. MY COUNTRY1. My country, my country, thy fate I deplore; My country, my country, thy glory is o'er. Like a poor childless mother, thou sittest forlorn; Thy bclov'd are departed, thy loving arc gone. Refusing all comfort, thou turn'st to the grave Of the noble, the valiant, the good and the brave!. Thy patriot heroes and sages arc dead; Thy strength has departed, thy glory has fled! The parricides aim at thy being a blow; They would clothe thee in sackcloth, and doom thee to woe! In blood they would drench thec, (thy children's own gore!) My country, my country, thy glory is o'er! My-country, my country, I weep for thy shame Thy sons have dishonored thy glorious name. They would robe thee in sackcloth, and tear from thy brow. The beautiful gat land which circles it now, The bright wreaths of glory, so gallantly wove By thy patriot sons for the land of their love. They did build thee si temple, an altar diine. And to brotherly love they erected the shrine; And they swore while the glorious fabric they plann'd. As daily journalists we will presume to trespass on the territory of orthoephts and lexicographers, and were we called on to define the term in question, we should follow the example of Linkum Fideliu, and pronounce twaddle to be twaddle JJe its definition what it may, wc regard it as the to kalo:i, (we do not employ Greek type because they could not be read) the all in all, the one thing needful ol newspaper editors, paragraph makers, manufacturers ol accidents, on ginators of rumors and on dits, in a woid of the whole wide class whose vocation it is, to cater for the cutious and discri minating public It makes the meat it feeds on, and begets an appetite that palls on ether fare. From a speech in congress down to a ward meeting ha rangue, from the big Quarterly Review down to the daily journal, it is the cha racteristic of nine tenths of those who seek to control public opinion, and to di reel public taste. It appears in a bun dred difFerent shapes, sometimes assu ming the garb of originality, and lurking within the folds of magisterial and professional robes, and sometimes clad in the plain homespun garments of com mon sense. Uut a3 'rhubarb is rhubarb call it what you will; so twaddle is twaddle wherever and however it may appear A skilful twaddler however, like a skilful quack, must possess some cleverness to enable him to succeed in ihc world, and though the initiated mav understand the secret of his heat t, there is ! no reason why they should deny him credit for a certain amount of skill in hh operations, bee what a paragraph it has !
