Several gentlemen arrived in town on j Saturday from Santa Fe. We lcam that the state, that they were attached to nart of twelve traders, all of them returning h rne, that they were attacked on Canadian Fork of the Arkansas, distant about two hundred and torly miles 'from Santa Fe, by probably two hundred ! and fifty Camsnche Indians: and tnai an enira?emcnt ensued which las'eel thirtyiWO hours, and resulted in the death of j two men. We understand, that on the J upon and killed, I Its name was P an, a tinner who had resided some time in San ta Fei two bails and two spears entered his body. The attack was now com ; menced Immediately the horses and! mules were tied to a iree; and they 10-; gether with the baggage, atTrded some protection whie the party were engagcu . .... 1 in digging a trench in the sand sufficient ly deep to tect them from the balls of the Indians. Hut before thU could be done, another of the party, a Mr. Mitch ell of Boone county, was killed 'I he action lasted until 12 at night; when, the Indians havincr ceased firine, an attempt

Was made to escape, but they were dii ' of the United States, designated J. L. vfn back to their old intrenchment. OtiIColman's self-hegclating uokizontal ,i)e return of the day, the engagemwu ; windmill

agajn renewed, and continued until night. I3y this time, their guns were rendered useless bv shots from the Indi ans, their ammunition was expended, and almost every oneof the men were woun ded. They were now hailed by one of the Indians, and told, in Spanish, that they might depart, and accordingly they prepared to do so. Tbe4ndians allowed them to proceed on their way, directly through the main body, without molesta tion. It could not be ascertained how many of the savages were killed, but sotne were seen to fall; -and the Indians were observed frequently to crowd together, being a sure indication that a ball had taken effect, and that they were engaged in carrying off the body. All ihe horses and mules, belonging to the pary, were killed. They were thus compelled to abandon every article of the baggbge, and also ten or twelve thousand dollars in gold and silver. On the next day the party was divided: one branch that which h3S arrived here were to make for the nearest settlement and the other took a rout down the river. Of the ave who took the last named direction, two proceeded in advance of the rest, and reacnea a settlement: tney men return - ...i.t . cd, with others, in search of the three whose nroeress had been retarded: but no certain intell igence had been received of them.
