mers in great numbers, physicians and lawvers wi(hut exception, magistrates, judges, and ministers, have cast the weight of their influence into the sfjjc f tnmr.raneo. The rrood effects of this

nip ; u

i course may be easily anticipated. On I public occasions, drunkenness, riots, qiilrT

rcls, profane swearing, and a host of other vices have been greatly diminished, and in some instances have entirely disappeared. Industry, economy, domestic happiness, and good order have been extensive

ly promoted. In view of the wonderful success of this humane institution, let us take courage and go forward. There is much land which remains to be oosscsed. While

we rejoice that more than 220 in this

county are members oi temperance soci eties, that these exert an influence over three or four hundred others; while we rvjoice tint several distilleries have of late years ceased their work of death; that popular opinion is, to a considerable extent, in favour of temperance, and that

1 reposition is les3 violent than formerly,

we lament that a Dove lour mousana omers have taken no decided part in favour of

temperance measures; that three or more distilleries have, of late, been in operation; that so many are disposed to encourage the use of intoxicating drinks; that some continue to sell the fruitful caue of poverty, misery, cruelty, blood-

sheed, insanity, disease and death, in a thousand horrid form. Conidering the evils which now pre

vail, and arc likely to continue from the above cairVsy the executive committee do humbly, butNmost earnestly recommend, that we sh uua not relax, but increase our eflbrts in this great and good work. Let suitable addnsses be frequently delivered throughout the county, by men of all professions. Let societies be formed at least in every township. Let every member be an agent, and use all his exertions in this

cause, fraught with the best interests ot

humanity, patriotism and religion.
