The above is copied from the Vincennes Gazette of the llth instant, and is noticed alone for the purpose of correcting ilie erroneous impressions it imv give abroad. Mr. Homier, a Clayite, has surely been elected by a mnjoritv of .serenteen votes, and this majority too, obtained, as Mr. Ilill very well knows, bv the exertions of at least three prominent Jackson men supporting him, and without which he could not have been elected. Knox county ha at all times been very near equally divided upon the Presidential question. At the Inst Presidential election Jackson's majority was probably not more than 15 or 20. At the f lection in November corning, his fiie nils may rest satisfied that his majority will be increased not alone ii) old Knox, hut throi'iihout the State I hnve ben authorized to announce Hfnkv Rrnn-:, junr. as a candidate for T orongh (.'unstable, at the approaching election. On the iUh of July the company was made, and reported ready, or prepared to march. Thirty days was allow ed me to make the company, two days after the expiration of w hich time, viz. en the 2lHh5 we took up the lint of inarch for Chicago, to which place I was informed swords and pistols would Ik sent for the use of my company. On the march, J0 or iiO miles this side Danville, Illinois, an express from Captain Br.ovn, (who was then making his company at Datiille.) met me with information that the arms tor his and my company would be on in seven days to that place, the pistols without holster, and swords with belts. Every exertion was immediately made by capt. Brown to have the holsters mnd Mod on mv arrival we were assured that the holsters would be completed on the Kill. ieven days afterwards the w.iiii with the arms arrived, and on examination the swords were without belts. It was then determined that 1 should j;o to Tcrre-IIaute and have the belts made, an! leiurn against the 17th. The company have lalrcd under many difficulties. The drouth has l-en so rjreat, that water was scarce, and clouds of dust on the march made it almost inupoortable. Add to tins oil or upwards, caes ol common cholera morbus, which generally lasted from '21 to IS hours, 'leaving the men so much debilitated as to be almost unable to travel for two or three days, retarded our inarch in no small degree. Our northern position, with the repose the company had enjoyed for some days, and the rain setting in on mv leaving Danville, made things wear a much ditlorent and better aspect. You will excuse my troubling you. I assure you my only object is to satisfv those who have husbands, sons or fathers in the service. 1 have written in the absence of all my papers and memorandums, under some degree of excitement, nrid may err as to dates, but not as to facts. I open my letter to say I have just received a letter from Major General Winiield S -ot dated sWth July, (the day my company marched,) directing our march by Galena, to Trairie du Chien, which will alter our route. "In some reports (amongst the number) that have appeared, much success is said to have attended a free uscoi' heating re medies. Ot this class, it appears to us Tocapucum, better known by the name of Cayenne, would be a very effieaciou-t remedy. Its potency in reiterating heat, in c'liatizing the circulation, and determining to the siit-facc, is not surpassed by any article in the Materia Medica; the very thing iieeded most in the Cholera. If the irritabi'ity ol the stomach would not admit of large draughts, clysters composed of it might be administered with the prospect of much benefit. For one dose, about half a tea-spoon full of the pow der in half a pint of hot water, if the stomach can receive it, or in cold water, sweetened with suiar. This should be repeated every 15 minutes, until general perspiration is produced, and the extremities obtain a natural heat. It is not only from the testimony of skilful practitioners hi the Thompsonian remedies, but from the testimony of the Edinburgh and Thacei's Dispensatories, that we learn that this medicine "has been used with success in curing some diseases, that had resisted all other remedies. So much for the physical antidotes and remedies for this dreadful disease.v I am not altogether a proselyte to the Botanic system of practice, but acknowledge I have considerable predeiietius in its favor, and belief in its general utility. Should a call b made in decent terms and moderate language, by a regular physician, for mv reasons, he shall be gratified. " E P A M I N ON DAS. lOri THE I.OCISIAXA ADVERTISER, OF Ji-ly 2.", 32.
