WSSSHB? SUB! vincknnks. November 10, iku. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICAN MKETLNG. The friend of the Administration arc rc cmtested to meet at the Inn of J. C. ,'larke, on Sajunlav. the 2tUh inst. at 2 Cl o'clock, p. m. for the purpose of sending IbJe-satrs to the Jackon Convention at Indianapolis, which will meet on the second Moudav iu December next. A JACKSON MAN. Xorcmbcr 17th, IN'H. The foreign, news in this day1 paper, tvill lc found particularly interesting. It ill he seen that the Poles, the hravii but Unfortunate Pules have bled in vain. THC LADY O IV7X1.--The NovemCerXo. of this work has been received. f It is embellished with a beautiful view of the uKinrof En!unds Palace at Brlliii'ii. ? The matter as usual, w ill bo found amusing and instructive. The Wabash river is yet up at a navigable stao, and is now rising. Commrrcfol airport. ritoii the LOUISIANA AOVr.tTIsElt, OF OCTOHCH 1SS 1S31. GENERAL REMARKS. The Missisiippi river has beer gradually rising during the last week, and judging from present information, will probably continue on the rise for some days. The weather since our last has been, generally speaking, fair and ileasant, though rather colder than usual ,at this season of the year. The market has been dull during the last week. Few sales four chief staple productions have been Biade, and none to a great amount. We Lave taken pains to make the price current correct, and hope that no important eraors have been committed. COT TON. This article is at present dull, very dull, at quotations. The sales of the week, include not more than 300 a 500 bales, of all descriptions: the qualitv of the new crop from this state and Mississippi appears to lie much inferior to that of former years, and we have no good reason to expect that the future arrivals will be better. TOBACCO. We have heard ot no sales his week. The exports have been large in proportion to the stock, and the market is out supplied by new arrivals. Of the stock on hand at present, we do not think that more than five hundred hogsheads are in first hands. Our former quotations are continued, but thev tnav be considered nominal. SUGAR &' MOLASSES These articles have found demand in small quantities at our prices, which we continue the quanly in market of both, is so small, that no certain price can be affixed to them. It gives us pleasure to state that our information from the country, in regard to the present orops, is favorable, and that there will not probably be so great a deficiency as was . Searedthe result however is still uncertain -our climate is very changeable, and an carlyrost would destroy more than halt the Sugar Cane in the state. FLOUR Is retailed at our quotations, but may be considered dull; no purchases of fresh Flour haye been made since our last for shipment. Sour Flour continues without change either in price or demand. CORN, is dull at 75 cts. in the ear, and 437 a 44 cents per bushel, shelled; a large quantity of old shelled Corn remains cn hand; and the pi kes at which it is offered faave an unfavomble effect on new arrivals. RAGGING 8c BALE HOPE, continue aearlv the same, we have reduced our quotations so as to correspond with the last i:ik-s. 1 hrse iwo armies are in niany,. Lauds, i-.nd very dull. We anticipate no mi io imlirovement in price soon. PORK & LARD remain dull at quota dons; we have reduced prices for the latter, sales having been made during the week at our present rates. In Pork, no large purchases have been made. BEEF, Western, is very dull and without demand. We continue our former quotations, with the remark that sales could not be forced to any extent good Beef might pei haps be purchased at a lower price th m ouv present rates. LIME, has arrived in quantities since cur last, and the price has fallen; the article is in verv good request at present prices. II A V, comes in plentifully from the North, and finds" purchasers at 75 cts. per 100 lbs. by the cargo, and cts. a St retail. OIL. Lamp Oil, of all qualities is wanted, and could be sold readily at our quotations; we have heard of a sale of Linseed Oil at less than we qtiote it, but believe our prices is now published, are neailv correct. COFFEE, is in good demand at quotations, some holders demand higher prices. HAL TIMOUE, OCT 31. Baltimore and Ohio Rati Road Forty tudes oien We have the sincere satis fi ction to state that the assurances gien in the late annual report of the Picsi dent and Directors to the Stockholders o the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road, that the second and third divisions of the road would be opened for use by the 2irst of November, have been realized lta letter which we hae seen Irom a gentleman who performed the trip, da t led the 30th nut. lie says "the 'Pioneer Cat passed yesteidaj (Saturdax) morn inc on ihe line as lar as 10 the loot of the inclined plane, No 1, at Parr Ride being a distance cf lorty miles from Bil timore. Phc fourth Division of the road which extends to the Mooocacy, as mcusj uic i.iriWil nl:mfHovtr the Parr Itidie, and the lateral road to Frederick, are in such state ol loiwardness as to leave no doubt that the entiie route to Ficdcrick rill be opened within the month of No vembcr. ' The graduation of the fif'h Division, extending from the Monoeacy river to iho Poiomac, is nearly completed, cx -
Icept at a slne pnint of about 2 or
ho yards, tvhich will soon bo graduated, and the travelling on the road will, without any doubt, be established to the Potomac river within a few weeks. We believe that tho actual distance already about to be opened, being about
forty miles, embraces the longest line TPHIS paper will, as heretofore, be pubof continuout rail war, now in operation j nlica twi.c a wi;e,k during the session
either iu this country or in Europe, and tth.n rU rntA . f, . 1 when the road shall be finished to the i uiuuiAu nvcr, wnicn win oe wnnin nvc or six weeks, the whole distance under track will be about seventy miles, and will give to Baltimore an extent of Hail Road of perhaps double the length ofany one continuous line of rail tracks in the world. Arrangements are now in train to open the road for regular travel, stables having been erected, and every other fa- ! cility so far completed that the entire j Western travel can be accommodated i on the Rail Road in the eourso of the : present week. It will be seen by reference to our advertising columns that the spirited proprietors of the great Western Stages, have established a new line between this city and Wheeling, which will convey passengers, forty miles on the Rail Road, commencing to morrow and that on or about Christmas the whole of the travel by that line will pass through Fredcrick, making use of he Rail R ad between it and Baltimore Bait. Gar. STEAM BOA V DISASTER The boiler, of the Ferry Boat at Jef fersonville, burst on Fuesda last, and killed four person d' ad fx several others wounded, one of which is since dead as reported Mr Logue, a gentleman who keeps a clothing store in Louisville, a Mr. Crew who keeps the spring at Jef fersonville, Mr. Robert Stewart achixen of Jeflersonville, and a coloured man, the name of the other we do not recollect. Charleston Statesman. Pair firosfiect The Clay party in Pennsylvania succeeded at the late elections in returning three members to the Legislature. What a re-action! Just three members out of 100 friendly to Mr. Clay. Madison Herald. There is nothing that a vain man will not do to appear virtuous? He loves nothing so much as his mask. I have known persons who in four weeks scarcely changed their shirts, b it who nevertheless put on a clean collar daily, that they might appear clean. Eye-rtibbcry We perceive by the daily papers that some rascal ha9 been stealing Doctor Scudder's eyes. He broke in while the doctor slept, and robbed him of the precious treasure; and as the doctor awoke in the morning, he saw plainly that his eyes were gone He also missed some sixty dollars worth of pure gold, and a quantity of enamel, wherewith eyes are wont to be prepared. But looking upon the gold as of comparatively little value, the doctor declares that if he can only see his eyes again and the accompanying enamel, the thief may keep tbe gold and welcome or, if he prefers it, may have an eye set in his head after the most approved style. W ho this eye-robber can be, is a matter of much doubt and speculation. Some 1 j suppose him to be a Kentuckian who has j. ,i,r. h.fi.ii.,,k. :wvi LUUtlvu vi II VI VJ v I L v v 11 1 1 II vs u v- . a newly converted Mormonite, who is still somewhat in the dark; while others again think he is nothing but a scurvy politician who by making a show of eyes would have tho world suppose he can sec more than he really can Rut whoever he may be, there is one thing certain, there is not 3 left eye among all those taken Y 1 Constellation.
