NATIONAL REPUBLICAN MEETING IN KNOX COUNTY. In pursuance of public notice, published 7u the Vincenncs Gazette of the 24th ult. calling a meeting of the National Republicans of the county, a number of citizens met fit the Hotel of Genl. Lassellc, on Saturday the 1st of October. The meeting was called to order, and its object briefly explained by Samuel Hill Esq when Joseph Cham Bkks Esq. was called to the chair, and Mr. Gkokge W. Carruthers appointed Secretary The following preamble and resolutions where then unanimously adopted. Whereas, our happy Republican form of Government is, in all the enlightened world, an acknowledged censumation of the virtue, and the wisdom of man; and th. preservation of its constitutional guar antr-es should form an object of deep reflection, and mighty exertion, with the friends of human rights: And whereas, we. do candidly and honestly believe, that thh Republic and those rights are immi nenttv endangered, by the consolidated opposition f the present Administration

Shaw, and Jacob Kuykendall, guardian of Charles : -truth, a minor, being two-thirds and more of the persons resident in the Borough of Vincennes reported by Samuel Hill, R. P Price, and H. Lasselle, jr. commissioners, &c.as owners of the property, which in the opinion of the said commissioners, would be directly benefitted by a certain improvement in said Borough, to wit: by graduating St. Peter's street from Fourth street to the river Wabash, and also by widening St. Peter's street from Fourth street to the river Wabash, five feet on each side, have by petition under their hands, dated At. gust 12th, 1831, prayed that said improvements may be made in pursuance of the authority by law vested in the President and Trustees of the Borough of Vincennes. I herefore. Sec. 1. Be it ordained by the President and Trustees of the Borough of Vincemies, in common council assembled, 1 hat haint Peter's street, from Fourth street to the river Wabash, be extended in width five feet on each -aide, so that said street shall henceforth be sixty feet wide. Provided, nevertheless, That nothing in this ordinance shall be deemed or taken to require John Marney to remove his dwelling house, nor to pre ent or restrain him from including his well within bis yard fence, nor to require the heirs of Charles Smith, dee'd. and Geo. W. Ewing to move their respective brick houses on said St. Peter's street, back from off said street. Sec. 2. Be it further ordained. That if any person or persons shall build, erect, put or place any hotist, or building, or fence, of any sort, or other incumbrance whatever, in or upon the said St. Peter's street, so widened as aforesaid, said house, building, fence, or other incumbrance, shall be deemed and taken to be a nuisance within the 1st and I2d sections of an ordinance, entitled An ordinance to prevent nuisances, and for other purposes, passed 15th of November, 18i8, and the Borough constable shall proceed thereon accordingly. Sec. 3. And be it further ordained. That two commissioners, to wit: G. W. Ewing, and Samuel Judah, be appointed, whose duty it shall be to cause Saint Peter's street, from the said Fourth street to the rtti Wabash, to be graded and graduated; that they have authority with the advice and consent of the President, to make contracts, employ labourers, and draw orders on the Treasurer for the payment, as may be ne cessary, which orders shall be paid out of any money in the Treasury, and the said commissioners are hereby authorised to receive from the persons, owners of the pro perty concerned in said improvement, such sums of money as may be proportionate to the amount chargeable to them respectively, for their proportions of the expense of making said improvement, and their receipts therefor, shall be a full voucher to them for such payment, and as such, shall be deemed and taken by the Treasurer. Sec. 4. The commissioners aforesaid shall report all their proceedings in the premises under their hands and seals, to the Board of Trustees, and shall be allowed a reasonable

This Mtdical School is to be under the care of the Reformed Medical Society of the United States, arid to be conducted by the Vice President and Secretary of that body.
