GENERAL REMARKS The Mississippi has fill en since our last twelve inches, and was vestcrdav at noon tight feet six ini ches below c rdimrv high water mark. 'The weather has been warm, dry and dustv up to yesterdav, when we had a few lieht (April) showers but not sufficient to lav the dust. Oar city generally, may he fairly considered as healthy, rumor to the contrary not-xvituffanding; and when otherwise,' under the influence of Epidemic, we will as in duty bound, acknowledge it for the benefit uf all concerned abroad. The number of shipping in port all told, compared with the same time for ten years past up to 1822 inclusive stand thus, 79 sail against 38, 20, 25, , 26, 12, 15. 22, 17, 19, vide statement this alone ought to account for sickness in the Hospitals. Our Market continues dull, without.variety or animation, and leaves us without any material alterations in prices or demand to notice for the past week. The apparent bustle of business on the Levee is confined to the i eh ading of Cotton, 'Tobacco, and other produce discharged after the gale of August 16 and IT, together with the great amount of new buildings erecting in almost every square in the city and its environs, which employs no ordinary force. COTTON. AH accounts from tke growing districts valuing on this matUree in a large defalcation of the fortl crop, compared with the lat, not fdyTrs to the amount, but in quality, all of which time will determine. We understand there is a few shipments taking place on owners account, which has been valued here, without being put into the market. Of future prospects more anon. SUGAR of good merchantable quality on the plantation and in the city is scarce and in demand. Inferior continues plenty and dull. Molasses is likely in demand, and good very scarce, some say there is none tor sale. The prospect of the present crop turning out much less than for some years past, is in favor of that in the market, or abroad unsold. FLOUR, fresh from new wheat, such as is wanted at present by the bakers, is scarce and would readily bring at least five dollars per bhl The sales of the week for that in store for exportation, reinspected has ruled at S4 00. S4 25 a 4 50. Sour we quote at S3 25 last sales. COTTON BAGGING and BALE ROPE. We noticed in our last report as being plenty and dull at quotations, and have nothing new to remark in favour of that unsold. CORN, HAY and OATS is lookhg m(. in value, owing to the destruction of the Corn crops in this State and Mississippi, by the storms in the last month, as also that in p'-rt at the landing and warehouses, of the former article. PORK. LARD. BACON, IIAMh, WHISKEY. BEEF, and many other articles ef Western produce remain as no cicect in our last vide quotations. IjiTl irU On Sunday the lHth Hit. Pv John Collins Esq. Air.
