This, at first, seemed to afford the imposition some joy, the reason for which 1 acknowledge w as beyond my ken That men should be found in tlu Jackson ranks, sufficiently patriotic to give up power and place, and retire t the ra .ksof private life, is so different from any thing looked for among the opposition, that they can scarce be brought to acknowledge it to exist in any; and I would be far from even wishing to deprive them of any gratification or benefit they may expect to de live from the great blow up. The Mississippi was yesterday noon twelve inches below ordinary high water mark . and expected to continue i isir.g. COTTON. The principal stir in the Cotton yards and pressts, during the fere part of our commercial week, was confined
to the delivery cf former operations, detained by the wet weather noticed in our last Report. The sales of the week have been respectable, though not extensive, and the demand general!) for the best qualities m market. The major part of the transactions were in Tennessee and North Alaba ma's; some little very choice commanded nine cents; shipments continue to b? made on owners account. Louisiana and Missis sippi is not so plenty as it was some time back, and remains in good request for fair, good fair, good and fine. SUGAR, on the plantation, by the quantity, of choice qualities, continue?, as noticed in our last, to be scarce and in fair demand. We have understood that a few holders refuse selling, in expectation of better rates. Inferior is plenty, and may be fairly considered dull. MOLASSES continue steady at 14 cents near the city, and at a fraction
