An Ordinance relative to the Public Burial Ground. 1. He it crdaintd by the Beard cf Trustees cf thr llomttrh cf Viuccnnea and it i hereby crdained by the authority rf the tame. That henceforth, the public burial ground shall be under the care of a Commissioner, whoshall have the control thereof, and the direction and management of all matter and things appertaining thereto. 2. That some fit person shall be appointed Superintet.daiit, who shall have the sole privilege by himself or servants of digging graves in the Public Burial Ground; and whose duty it shall be to attend to the care and preservation of the public burial gi ound, agreeably to the ordinances of the borough, and in obedience to the instructions of the Commissioner. 3. The Superintendent shall be entitled to demand and receive from the persons employing him, for digging each grave for a decedent who is fifteen years or more old, two dollars and fifty cents", and for all others, two dollars. In winter, if the ground is frozen, the Co nissioner may, at his discretion, authorize the Superintendent to charee
an additional fee, not exceeding one dollar. In addition to the fee allowed the Supcrintendant, he shall also demand and receive fifty cents for each grave, which he shall
immediately pay over to the Commissioner
4. It shall be the duty of the Commis
sioner to lay off the ground now used, in
such a manner, tliat all graves hereatter made, shall be placed in order side by side, allowing a sufficient space for alleys betvv een the rows of graves. 5. An addition shall be made to the present burial ground by extending the same

All such sums ot money as the Commissioner may receive from' the Superintendant or from purchasers of squares or for interest accruing on funds, shall be appriated to the use of the Public BuuhI Ground, and to no other purpose whaicvcr. Whenever the commissioner may have in his hands fifty dollars or more of this fund, he shall loan out the same on the best terms he can get on note or bond with at least two good and sufficient freeholders for securities; and whenever any interest or the principal loaned may be due, if not promptly pidd on demand, the Commissioner shall enforce the collection thereof by legal process. The
Commissioner shall be entitled to ten per cent on all interest accruing on loans by him made, as a compensation for his trouble in managing the fund. 7. The Superintendant on the 1st day of January in each year, shall report to the Board of Trustees the number of interments during the preceding year.and specify therein the day of interment, the name, the age, thq place of residence, and the disease of each person interred; and on the sa ne day the Commissioner shall report the sums of money bv him received for the sale of
squaiesof ground, or from the superintendant during the previous year, and the situation and his management of the public burial ground fund. 8. From and after the 1st day of June next, it shall not be lawful to inter any corps in any part of the borough of Vincennes, west of tenth street. And each and every person who shall bury any corps within the borough ot Vincennes and west of tenth street after the 1st day of June next, or who shall aid or assist iu so doing, by carrying the corps to the place of burial, by digging the grave, by placing the cofnn in the grave, or by throwing in the earth thereon, shall forfeit and pay nve dollars, for each ffence, which money when collected, shall b; appropriated to the public butial ground fund, and accordingly paid by the Treasurer to the Commissioner.
