Periodicals and ephemeral journals have
multiplied so rapidlv , and at leugth have become so numerous, that few, even of the
most privileged, have leisure to keep pace
with their uninterrupted publication ; or manifest an inclination to wade through the
mass of contents, to glean the small portion
of matter that may be acceptable to their
taste. 1 his magazine is intended toseive the purpose of those who have not access to
the uncounted miscellaneous publications o:
the day ; but who still are desirous of availing themselves of their most valuable contributions. And while it aims to furnish the eemsand the brilliants of contemporaneous periodicals, it is hoped the Monthly 1 traveller will not be rendered less inviting than othrs, from the fact, that by its reduced

BY and with the consent of the Refonctd Medical Society of the U. State the new Reformed Medical Institution hcB been located in Worthington, an interesting and flourishing town on the hetstor.c river, eight miles north of Columbus, on the Northern Turnpike. This state has beea chosen, because it presents the greatest nd-
vantages to facilitate the researches ot the
jotanical student the country around it it-
bounding with every variety of medic Jl plants; and the situation being the n.cs: healthu and delightful in the western coun
tryand because the occupancy ct the large
college edihee, together with the ground of every variety of soil for an extensive botan-
ical garden, has been presented to us by tne
board of trustees oi orthiugtcn college.
There will be attached to the institution

distance, laboring under fevers, consump
tions, dvspepsia, liver complaints, gravel
ulcers, fistulas, cancers, etc. Cc. win be suc
cessful treated, without bleeding, mercit
ru or the knife, and from which the student
will acquire a correct knowledge ot tt e nature, operation and superior efficacy of vegetable agents in remov ing disease. The necessity for such an institution of this kind, in the'west, to be under the direction of competent professors, is ttrikingly evident. It is an institution that is designed to concentrate, and disseminate, all the knowledge and discoveries cf doctors of medicine and empyrics, sages, and savages; and that will demonstrate to the student and the sick that vegetables alone, afford the only rational, safe, and effectual means of removing diseases, w ithout impairing the constitution, or endanger life or limb ThaC
the present system of practice, which ti eaS
diseases ot every torm with metallic miner
als, the lancet, or the knite, is dangerous or inefficient the lamentable facts which eve-
rv day present too fully illustrate. Nor rs
this truth more clearly exhibited, than the
fact that vegetable substances alone, a rr.
void cf danger, and powerfully emcierrt when administered: a preference to the success of our New-York infirmary, and the success of ignorant botanical physicians, proves this fact. The college and infirmary w ill be cpene the first week in December, where student from all parts may enter and complete their medical education, and where persons laboring under every species cf disease shaft receiv e prompt and faithful attention. sent practice of physicians a knowledge of the use, and abuse, cf Minerals, the Lancet, Obstetrical Forceps, and the knife, and a know ledge of the new and improved system that supersedes their use, with tenfold more safety and success. There w ill be no specified time to complete a course of study ; whenever the student is qualified he mav graduate and receive a Diploma some will pass'in one vear others will requiie more.
