A large force has assembled at St. Cloud, with the indention, it is said, of remaining there. Tfvv dwnot intend attacking Paris. it is belie t d, but, if attacked, the? will fight. They occupy Mmidon and Mount Valerien (the heights to the right and left of St Cloud.) Several 'hundred soldiers of the Regiment -f the Guard are said to have left their regiments within these two days, a.nd arc to be met with in Paris with their mustaches shaven off. The number ol men under arms this day is comparatively small. The 'Chateau of the Tuillerins remains in the hands of the brave fellows who took it. They are principally of the working classes, and on Thursday night presented a most grotesque appearance. A.inong them are four Irish mechanics, who arrived ''fortunately" in Paris that ery dry," on their way to Charenton The thing was not to be withstood, so in they went with the uboyi." The loss of both parties on Thursday was immense. It was evident to every man who saw them that the French troops were dejected. Some of them had fiot tasted food for thirty hours. They fought, moreover, again their own countrymen. The poor Swiss had still more cause for dejection, for they apprehended '.hat no quarter would be shown them. They were wrong, tor the lives of all Who surrendeied were spared. The people fought iike lions. At one point, a woman, in the costume of her sex, headed the Bourgeois, and was the boldest of the combatants A Woman, dressed in man's clothes, iought at thr .i k on the Swiss barracks, in the R " net The 3d icgiment of thf uj V-i deans) fought with extra ord...jiv evy and devotion. Many af the IVirassicrs surrendered their 9Wo ds the fines' he Lmcers of the Guard cly ot men in the country neroism and constancy, but fought ! Were drea hilly cut . up. Many of them (private soldiers) were young men of family, l he manner in wnicn me awiss fought, ami the nature of the engagement, may be taken from the following instance: A company of them defended one portion of the Rue St Honore They were reduced to sixty when I saw them, and fought in three lines of single files. The people occupied the whole breadth of the street in front of them. The foremost Swiss soldier would fire, or attempt to fire, and would fall pietced with balls before he could wheel to gam the rear. 1 he same oc curred to the next, and so on until they had every one fallen. The contest here, at the Louvre, the 1 uillenes, and at the Plt.ce de Greve, was maintained with the most deadly obstinacy. The Rue lljnore, for two days, was a perpetual scene of slaughter. There may be counted in the front of a house, which for ns the corner of the streets de Rohan and St Honore, five thousand shot holes The L uvre (except the Piccure Galle ry v a nation!) was on all sides at tark- d And defended at the same mom: -rid hr hours In the court of the 2 fi'ld piece was planted, which Co- ,ai.t- d ti c Pont des Arts, being exac opposite the Institute. Tbe people occupied the Quai Pelleteir and the .Place de Geve. After a most sanquinary struggle, they were slowly beaten from the Quay into the Place, which, with the Ho tel de Ville, they maintained against seme of the finest troops in the universe throughout the day, and until those troops retreated. The Lieutenancy of the Kingdom is offered to the Due d'Oi leans. The king is said to have gone to Lille. All the emb'ems of royalty are removed, and the Duputies are again assembled this moment at La Fine's. Several of the officers of 'he Garde Royalc who fought on Wednesday have resigned their commissions; amongst others Count (I think) Latour du Pin, giving as his reason his objection to fight against his countrymen. The shops are still very generally closed, notwithstanding the proclama tion ol the municipality As you may suppose, much distress would be felt by the pcopie (being all unemployed) had not arrangements been made fcr their subsistence The order that prevails reflects upon the people and their Chiefs the highest honour. The National Guard will have immortalized itself by its exemplary conduct in protecting persons and property from possible injury. To the credit of the Parisians be it known that, o-
j mid all their cxcUarr.ent, no foreigner
has been insulted. Money is not to be had. The moneychangers have all disppeared, so that foreign coin, or securities, connot be turned into French specie. On the evening of Wednesday an ea gle (of one of Napolcan's old regiments) was mounted over the triumphal arch in the Place du Carousel, together with the tri-coloured flag. The flag remains, but the eagle has been taken down. The tri-coloured cockade, or breast-knot is general, not only among the French, but Russians, English, Germans, Danes and other foreigners. Flight of the Kino of France. Courier Oflicey three o'clock. An express has arrived from Paris with the following information: Paris Saturday evening. All is tranquil here. The gates of the city are open, and the st eets, which had been torn up by the populace, with the intention of throwing the stones from the tops of the houses upon the millitary, are repairing The King of France ha? fled to Nantes, accompanied by the Duke de Bourdeaux and other members of the royal family. They have carried off with them the crown and all the jewels. I hey will there wait tor the Ex Min isters, when it will be decided whether they will proceed to Germany or to Eng land. Such of the Swiss Guard who had survived the carnage have forsaken the King. Another account states that the King has gone to Rheims Globe Office four o'clock Further account have been received from Paris to Thur sday evening The tri-coloured flag is flying cn the Faille n.s and Notre Dame. The Duputies have sent a protest to the King, who is at St Cloud, but he continued firm. A committee consisting of General Girard and La Fayette, the Marquess de Choiseul, Odier and Cassimir Perrier, sits at the Hotel de Viile, for the pur pose of regulating; the proceedings ol the people. On Wednesday the National Guard succeeded in capturing the Hotel de Villeand Arsenal, which were, however re-taken by our troops of the line, rc captured by the young men of the Ecole Polytechnique. The 3th and 53d Regi ments of the line went over to the people. The populace were formed into military corps, and did the duty of a garri son. A regiment of Guards and the Swiss were attacked it the Tuillerics, and the posts being forced, retreated to the Lo vrc, when they were again at tacked, and obliged to retire from Paris NEW STORE. IMP O ttO CHARLES ALEXANDER, Publisher of the Daily Chronicle, and well known as having been connected in the publication of the Saturday evening Post, and Casket proposes in conjunction with Louis A. Godey, to commence, on the first of July next, a monthly LITERARY MISCELLANY, under the above title. This work will be devoted especially to the service of the Ladies, and looking chiefly to them for patronage, no exertion will be scared to merit it. The plan contemplated varies materially from that of any cf the American pe riodicals now circulated; and if executed in the style which the proprietors believe to be within their means, will be found, they trust, to be an improvement, in some respect at least, upon the bet of its predecessors. In the choice of materials, though contributions of decided merit will always be acceptab.e, they never will be introduced to tbe exclusion of ether articles of superior value. The numerous Magazines to be proided for the purpose of selection, will always afford a plentiful supply of matter suitable for the Lady's Book, which, when republished, will possess, for all but a few, the attraction of novelty. Extensive arrangements have been made at home and abroad that will give every facility to the ready attainment of the choicest and earlist productions. The design includes every thing which maybe ex ptcted to afford entertainment and instruction, in an inviting form, to those for whom the work is intended. It is presumed too that a Miscellany deserving the notice of the ladies, cannot but prove worthy of the other sex. Among the subjects which may be enumeratcd s likely to be prominent, will be found Music, including notices of new compositions, with occasional disquisitions on the science, and reprints cf such New Songs as may be thought worthy to be so dis tinguished ; Biographical anecdotes. Tales anU interesting Narratives, from writers cf real talent: the Fashions, with an illustra tive enra ing quarterly, fancifully coloured. This department will be under the superintendence of persons w elHersdin the art, and no pains will be spared to rer.der it not the least attractive part of its contents. A word or two now and then will be introduced, touching those exercises c spcrts which are generally regarded as improving to both health and beauty, among which. Riding and Dancing may be specified, with appropriate wood cuts by skilful artists. Poetry, cf course will be one of the Departments to which great attention will be paid, and Embroidery, the poetry cf Needle work, will fill its due space. On this latter subject it will be difficult to End contributors who can write clearly, but the engraver will be perfectly intelligible. CONDITIONS. The work will be issued in numbers, cn the first of every month, and comprise fifty six large octavo pages ; to be printed cn a fine super royal paper, with entirely new type, and carefullr stitched in coloured covers. Every number will contain a piece ct Music, one Copperplate Engraving, ard at least four Wood cuts, illustrative cf the contents ; and every three months a cricured plate of the latest London or Paris Fashions. The subscription price w ill be S 3 per annum, payable in advance 25 per cent, semi-annually, will be added to all subscriptions that remain unpaid, and the work discontinued to those who neglect to settle up their arrears. Great attention will be paid to forwarding the work to country' subscribers, that they may rrceheit uninjured by mail transportation. Agents, receiving subscriptions, and remitting the amount to the publishers, will be allow td 15 per cent, discount, or a proportionate number ci copies cf the work. Address LEWIS A. GODEY, !c CO. Daily Chronicle Office. Phdadelfikia. Country papers, by inserting the above as often as they think proper, and ending their papers addressed to "The Lady's Book," Philadelphia, will be entitled to recede the work tor one year, and thi same will be promptly attended to.
