COMMUNICATION. In the Indianapolis Journal of the 0th inst. in reference to the late election of Speaker of the House of Representatives, and to the choice of Ross Smiley in preference to Isaac Howk, the late Speaker, the editors among

other remarks, make the following: In adverting to this election, it is not our purpose to indulge in any remarks which can

be distorted into unkindncss, towards the successful candidate or his political friends;

but it is due to truth and a pioper regard to the public interest to say and we do it with reluctance that so far as we are capable ol judging of the qualifications of the two gentlemen, for a discharge of the Important duties ot the Chair, the public interest has been but fioorly consulted in the selection

thus made. Mr Uowk is known to have been, at the late election, a decided friend of Mr. Adams, and Mr. Smiley of Gen. Jackvon." It is not intended to make any observations in any manner derogating from the high character for talent and usefulness which Mr.

Uowk has so justly acriuircd. Wherever he

If you shall see proper to test its strength with new hemp rope, you will probably tied it to be weaktr at first, but after both have been so long exjiosed to the weather as to render that made of hemp useless, that of cotton will
