Gray and Stewart, on her way up from Or
leans, was struck by the steam boat Diana,
descending, about 100 miles below us in the Ohio, on the night of the 3d inst. The Carroll was running close to the Kentucky shore, and as the Diana approached, she stopped her engine and repeatedly hailed the Diana. The latter apparently turned towards the shore, and ran direct for the Carroll, which she itruck a little aft from the bow, and broke a larre hole in her side. The Carroll was immediately run ashore, which she barely reached before she went down. The obstruction of the water by the cargo alone enabled her to get to the shore. The boat, and all the perishable part ol the cargo will be lost The boat was ensured, and it is supposed the greater part of the cargo also. Foci:?. Nr.r Oleai;s, March S3.
