TO JOURNEYMEN PRINTERS All indllS trious, good workman, willing to engage lor moderate wages, may h;ve a pemaucnt situation at the Western Sunoaice, by making speedy application. The following nntc was put into the letter ho at the post office, and handed to mc on S iturday evening last. UI am told Jeremiah Sullivan, Agent to ncgociate with Ohio, appointed by the last general assembly, is, and always has been, a Jacksonian do justice mention the fact." B. The statement promised by Mr. Judah last vcck, lias been received, and shall have a place ne.t week. The Tallahassee Floridianof the 6ih January, says " Second crops of cucumbers, snapbeans, cimbliiss, gtecu peas and tomatos, have been gathered this year, ihe t wo last r.:e still to be ioimd in many gaidens." In a proclamation of the emperor of China failed iQv by the h ouhlesome increase of appeals from the provinces, his celestial majts ly has enjoined si: ict search to be made to discover all lavj-suit cxci'ing blackguards, and when found, to punish them severely. Public Lands The Natinn Journal of the 27th January, says i; Mr. Duncan made annt'empt, yesleul.ty, in t!ie house to get up his bill for the graduation of the public lands Ftom appearances, we think there is improbability of tite passage of any bill of this character dutinjjthc present session. The sub ject of the public lands bee;; i to hi a very tender one; and the time is not remote when it will lead to a discussion involving more time ami temper than any other topic now or recently before congress." A letter from Washington, savs u I learn that a beco ning respect for the recent melancholy afil ctiun of the President elect, has induced M;s Adams, to suspend music and

It is said in a letter from Paris, that much encouragement is given to the following newinvention for heating rooms. 'A piece of quick lime dipped in water, and shut hermcliically into a box constructed for the purpose, gives almost a pmgatoiy heat, and prevents the necessity of fuc." e in Arc v ratio v. The authorities of Huston, on the petition of gen. John P. Hoyd. and others, have grant cd the use of Fatmr.il Hall, for a dinner on the 4th of March, to celebrate the inauguration of President Jackson. Will not the citizens of Vincenne have a public celebration of some sort? A hint is deemed sufficient. The following notice of Dr. Hunn, whose essays I have commenced publishing in this day's paper, is extracted Irom the Louisiana Journal, & well deserves a candid reading. " The author of them, Dr. Hunn, is said to be one of the best educated men in the United States. He is a German by birth, and a gra duatc of the t wo Medical universities ot Jen. na and Erfurt. For the lae-t CO years he has been inconstant practice in different parts ut the Union, and is now considered to be the most successful Physician in Kentucky. To the advantages of great scientific, attainments in his profession, Dr. ilunn unites all the aids and benefits of a long continued and extensive practice. When such a man, at the close ol his professional career, with no other motive but phihmthropi.y, comes furwaid to find fault with existing theoiies & systems, and to show their errots and delects by the results of .10 y. ai s experience and observation, and on a subject so important as the pie servation and continuance ot human life, we sh"u!d hail his appearance. The richness ol illustration, and ho.oely vigor of mind dis plaved in these css -.s, denote bin) to be a man of no rdinaiy stamp; and the originality of his views, together with that independence which chat aelct b:es his discussions, imiiioe us to believe that the human lamily arc much concerned in his discovei ics." losses arc, indeed, admitted by the Russian bulletins, but arc ascribed, as those of Napoleon were in his disastrous retreat from Moscow, solely to the inclement weather. FltOM THE INDIANAPOLIS JOURNAL. sun t e ciiamdkh, Jan. 22, "1029. i Mr. John Douglass : he aii sir In your paper of this day, I have read a note signed by Mr. Ewing, upon the subject of a substitute, to his canal bill, read by mc in the senate as an argument for! the appointment of a select committee, to draft a bill better suited to the wishes and judgment of the friends of the canal. I he bill "presented by Mr. Ewing" to the senate, could not be understood irom the ambiguity of its language, and could not be viewed by any of the canal advocates as any thing else than a strange, visionary Sc illusory project. It was distinctly stated by myself, and acknowledged by the senate, that I had only held up to their consideration, the outlines of a more acceptable bill; that I desired a reference of the draft to a select committee in order that some of its features might be incorporated into the original proposition, or lead to the adoption of an entirely new bill. That it contained provisions taken from the bill of the house of representatives, and thai ot the senate also, as well as several purely my own; that 1 had laboured to embrace features of both bills in order to unite, if possible, the members ol the west, among whom unhappy and unpt ofr-ble div isifr.s existed, with a con fident hope that concert of action might be produced anions those most deeply interest cd in the progress of the canal. I stated cleat ly, that t-e changes coo'amcd in my draft were the les.ilt ot necessity; that I dis approved the whole s heme, and feared its passage from the fact that it united in its support those most opposed to the canal, from a bc'icf on their part, that its success would effectually postpone, by placing the means beyond our reach, even a commencement of the work for years. An examination of the bill "presented" by the senator Iron) Knox, will satisfy any one, of the correctness of
their conclusions I have sent you the on' lines, read by me to the senate, not with a wish that you should be at the trouble of publishing them, but to enable you to say that the synopsis with which I furnished you a few day5 sh ce, is what it pur ported to be. Yon are, however, at liberty to make what disposition you may think proper of the whole. I doubt not that in Mr. F.w ini's promised discussions, such mention will be made of my efforts upon this subject, as to place me in a much more enviable light before the public that I could have hoped to at tain, in a single session of the general asstmbly. From what I have seen of this snarling senator, I am disposed to believe that no bet ter distinction could be desiicd, or stronger evidence afforded of intelligence, virtue am independence of a man, than his being rmsde the subject of animadversions, resulting Ironso poisoned and petturbed a btain. Vciy re spectfully, your obt. scrv't. W C. LINTON.
