We are happy to karn that the Sunday school in this p ace has recently been rc-orga insed and i now in operation this presents to ail. particularly the poor and indigent, an excellent opportunity of obtaining lur their children at least the rudiments of education " without money and without price. Wo do hope that our legislatute will direct their attention to the all important sub jeet of free schools. Our state it is true is in its infancy, but this should not prevent our fe presentatives from endeavouring to cteate a school fund, let it be ever so small IL vard coll go the first literary institution in the LJ States, owes its origin to a small sum donated by the colony of Massachusetts bay but one or two years after its settlement. Some time after, the Rev Mr. Harvard a pious and b nevolent clergyman made a liberal donation since that period, this institution ha flour ih.d and is now the pi ide and boast of the New Enghnd sta'cs Let this state make provision for free schools canst; at once a school tax to be levied, and if properlv and ju diciousiv managed, a lew vcars will present a wide difference as regards the intellectual c quiremcnts of the people What p it en? is there in the state who would not willingly be assessed a small sum, il by so doing his chil dren would receive literary iostt uction. :::ooo::,' 77 A.
