Jackion meeting. In puisuance ot public notice, a number cf the Iriends of gen. Andrew Jackson, convened at the court house in Vcvay, Switzerland county, la. for the purpose of appointing Del egates to attend the Jackson convention at Indianapolis, on the 8th day of this in stant George Craig was called to the Chair, and William C. Keen, appointed Secretary. At this mcctiag a preamble and resolutions were adopted, expressive of the feelings ol the meeting, and Thos Armstrong, Wm. C. Keen, John F. Sei bcnlhal and John Allen, were appointed

delegates to attend said convention. This Delegate is the person who has issued proposals for the " Jacksonian" Sec. respecting which publication, in my paper of the 15th December, I staled, that it was 14 to be an Adam's paper in disguise, and that the prospectus was issued for the sole purpose of defeating the Echo I give the above as I have tcceived it, and shall be giatified to learn, satisfactorily, that my informant was mistaked." The appointment of Mr Allen, by his immediate neighbors, as one cf the Delegates to attend the Jackson Convention at Indianapolis, furnishes that satisfactory information and I am gratified that the evidence is so conclusive and sa tisfictorv. The Wabash is at present higher by several inches, thsn it lias been known to be for the last thirty years, and is yet rising. Indiana po Lis. Dec. 28, 1827. Sir In consequ nee of the bregulaii-

(y of the mails, I am compelled to lorvvard my letters to Louisville, by a private opportunity. Since my last letter, the house of representatives have acted upon many subjects, mostly, however, of a private nature. The senate have passed by a unanimous vote, (I am informed) the bill which passed the house of representatives by a similar vote, rclativ e to a canal to unite the Wabash, and Miami of like Erie. The only amendment of consequence made in the senate, was to extend the appropriation to &200G, in which the house cnncuired. An effort was made in the senate to strike out the hill passed bv the house, an 1 to substitute another, but it wes ineffectual I was informed the vote was, 18 senators for the bill Itom this house, &nd three against it. The bill relative to Limited Partnerships, passed the use of repia sentatives by a vole of 32 aves. & 22 against it. I feel some co didence that it will succeed in the senate; at hast so con ftfi lent am I of its utility, that I am stiong in hope. In the house, the Michigan Road hi! I

is yet upon the table, in the senate, a majority have determined that the road shall touch the Ohio at some pVmt. betw en Ne w- Albany and Mount Vetrvn, both inclusive but the senate cannot determine upon any particular point, and ! nm inclined to think that a majority of hat body prefer not to pass any law, to making any point which is possib.e. 1 yet consider Leavenworth and Madison the strongest points. War be "ivv. France arid Algiers Our correspondents ol Boston have lorvYarded us extracts from the nihraitar Chronicle of the 3d and 5tb of November-, teceivtu at that pot t on Saturday The follow ing account of an action betw een the A ferine and French squadrons, was received at Gibraltar in a letter from Algiers. The Alacrities had been for some time preparing, for the avowed object of attaching the French force ; nod, on the night of October 3d, (being the eve of the lestSval of Mahomet's nativity,) their squadron, consisting of the following ships, put to sea: A frigate of fifty guns; a corvc'.te (the Admiral's ship,) ;t gun ; another corvette twenty-lour guns ; another twenty guns; two three masted schooners, sixteen guns each ; two schoonet s IB rrnns each ; two do. twelve guns each ; two do. ten guns each ; and a brig of 13 gun Vat Int. Early the following morning, they were fieen steering to the northwest, whilst the French squadron, consisting of a six'y pun razee, (the Admiral's ship,) another of the same class and metal two brigs one of twenty and the other of sixteen guns, appeared at a considerable distance

in the offing ; beat ing own with a notth

and a quarter. The intention of the Al-

gerines evidently appeared to be to board, rather than to' fight at a distance ; but heir object was frustrated by the wind ward position of the French ships. The French Admit al bore the brunt ol the action, and for some time sustained the united attacks of the Algerine Admiral's ship, two Corvettes and A schooner. At a quarter past three, the action ceased, neither party showing a disposition to renew it, as far as could be observed, neither having sustained much injury, for at 4 o'clock, all the Algerine squadron was seen steering for the port, appaiently in good order, and with as much regularity as when they left it, unpursued and unmo

lested by the r rench, who steered a not thwesterly course. The French squadion has since resumed the blockade.
