authorities, General L , ? ho at first do-' dined accepting, was made civil and military chief, and Colonel Elizalde commandant at arms. The municipality speak as if they had yielded only to avoid a civil war ; but the people appear to have deaired the change. A letter from Caracas, dated June 13th, says" A messenger arrived last hight from Bogota. Congress had met, and refused to accept the resignation of Bolivar and Santander." Extract of a letter to a gentleman in this place, dated on board the U, States ship Macedonian, Rio Janeiro, May 22. i I have nothing of material importance to mention to you. further than that there has been a great many of our merchant vessels involved in difficulty with this (the Brazilian) government. But, through the assidious exeitions of Commodore Diddle they have been cleared, and we have taken all the American sea men, who requested our protection, out of their services, some of whom were impressed." Norfolk Beacon. Tyfie Casting A machine has been in
vented and built by Mr. Peter Sturtevant,
and Mi-. Edwin Starr, the head mechanics
of the Boston Type and Stereotype Foun dry, which is likely to be of very impor
tant use in the art of type making. It is a machine for casting the type, by merely
tu ning the crank, thereby avoiding the la
borious and dilatory process of casting by
hand. The operation by this machine
may be performed by a boy or a person entirely unskilled, with double the rapidity of the best caster, and so much greater is the force by which the metal is injected into the moulds than that exerted in casting in the usual method, that there is rarely if ever an imperfect face, in casting the most slender and difficult letter. There is besides lcs; waste of metal, than in the ordinary mode of casting. The machine is not complex, and is little like ly, as far as we can judge from its consuuct.on, to get out of order. We fo?bear giving a more particular description, because the ingenious inventors have not yet secured the benefit of their improvement by a patent This we presume they will do without delay, and in th- meantime the machine will be introduced into use in the extensive foundry abovc nvntioned Ronton Daiiu Adv

) Sale of Seminary Lands. IN conformity with a law of the state of Indiana, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that on the first Monday ol September next, and from day today thereafter until the sale shall be completed, The Seminary Township, in Gibson county, will be sold in Prince ton, at Public Auction, in half-quartet sections: one fourth of the purchase money to be paid in hand, the balance at the option of the purchaser, to remain on interest for ten years, and thereafter at the option of the State Commissioners for that purpose, under the d'n eciion of the Geneial Assembly. The interest to be paid annually in advance ; and a failure lor two years successively to pay such in tercst shall occasion a forltiturc'of the land sold. Title in lee to bo made when the payment is made in full. The
above land was selected nearly twenty years since for the use of a State Semi
nary, and is recommended to put chasers
by every advantage of fertility of soil and beauty of situation. It adjoins the flourishing town of Princeton, J8 miles from the Ohio, 6 from the Wabash, and the same distance from White river. On the first Monday of Oct next. The Seminary Township, in Monroe county, will be sold at Blooiuington, in the same manner and on the same terms. This tract of land joins Bloomington where the State Seminary is situated, and is inferior in quality to none in the state of Indiana. Both towp ohips were selected prior to any sales in their vicinity, and have ever been considered the most advantageous that could be made They have farms in cveiy variety of improvement: the towns they adjoin contain six orciht hundred inhabitants each, and it may be safely stated, that for procuring desirable situations hr permanent settlers nothing equal has been offered to the public for many years The land is to be divided by the Commissioners, James Smith for the former township, and James Borland for the latter, into three rates : the first to be sold at no less than three dollars and fifty cents per acre, the second two dollais and twenty-five cents, and the third one dollar and twenty-five cents SAMUEL MERRILL, Treasurer of State.
