I do certify, that the conversation be

The Wabash has again taken a rise, is now in good navigable order, and is still using. Several communications arc on file, addressed to the candidates at the approaching election ; believing they could produce no beneficial effects at this time, I have not inserted them. To the Citizens of Knox. Fellow Citizens AS a candidate to represent Knox county in the Legislature, it was my sincere wish to avoid troubling you in the manner I now do. But believe me, that the circulation through the county of a taie upon me, calculated to wound the feelings of a portion of you, renders it necessary for me to address you ; and in doing so, permit me also to stale my opin ions on some subjects of great importance to the county. In the Telegraph of last week, there was published an article addressed to certain persons unknown, to whom the epi thct ' The trio" was given, and signed U 1 was informed by some person, whether truly or not, is novj immaterial that the EJitor of that paper had named me as one of the 4 trio,' and I was irritated. I conceived the publication itself to be highly improper, and I thought the naming ot me as one of the pet sons alluded to, deserving of any term I might apply to it In a conversation with Mr. But tch, in the presence of Mr. Ilebcrd only, I stated my opinion of that publication fully, Sc among other observations, said, or intended to say, in substance, that none but black hearted men would support the publication of such articles as that signed U. Mr. Hcberd, however, understood rnc to say, that " none but black hearted men would support the election of the Editor of the Telegraph as your Senator " This I assure you, was an innocent mistake of Mr. Hcberd ; and I positively assert, that I never did think of making the observation Mr. Heberd supposed me to make
