consider this salt monopoly as one, tending,if acquiesced in, to enrich a few individuals, at the expence and injury of a large portion of the community. Resolved, That it is the interest and duty of each member of this meeting, not to purchase, directly or indirectly, one pound of salt or any other article from this company, or any of their agents ; but that we will have our salt shipped from New Orleans or elsewhere. Resolved, That in case this salt company defy public opinion, and persist in their obstinacy, after seeing it meets with the disapprobation of the people, that we will have no intercourse or dealings with them either in a civil, religious, or political point of view. Resolved, That a3 John Armstrong has approbated the salt contract, aided in furnishing the capital, has sent out a runner to purchase all the salt in Cincinnati and other places, and procured the salt agency in Louisville, that he be consider eil implicated. Resolved, That a Committee of John Burkett. Joseph Frazcc, James Savage, James V. Coburn, and Robert P. Dimmitt be appointed to communicate with informed merchants of the city of NewOrleans, to ascertain at v. h t price salt can be purchased by the quantity, and the probable expence of transportation to Augusta or Maysvtlle: And in case this aforesaid company should persist in their attempt to monopolize the salt trade, the said committc are hereby instructed to communicate with other committees which may be appointed by other meetings, in this State, Ohio or Indiana, and use all laudable means to influence the wester n country to oppose all such monopolies.
