This place was visited on Monday last, about 12 o'clock, by a most violent storm of wind, rain and hail it was certainly a tempest of greater violence than I ever recollect to have -seen. It only continued a few minutes, but was very destructive two sides of the new large Human Catholic Cathedral, was prostrated tulhe ground, the steam mill unroofed, and the gable ends blown in besides a number of buildings unroofed, and some blown entirely down I have not heatdof uny lives haying; been lost. princf.ton, October 28, 1826. mr. e. stout. The meetin- col. Boon at Bedhvd on the 5th of August last, was entirely unexpected. 1 neither received trom col. Boon, any communication or message, directly or indirectly, nor did I write, or otherwise communicate to col. Boon, from the time he left Washington City, to the day I met him at Bedford. At the request of Mr. Jennings, the undersigned slate, that they weie present on Saturday the 5 h of August last, when Mr. Jennings was standing at the door of Mr. Athon's tavern, holding his horse by the bridle, was asked by col. Boon, whe ther ne (J, iisuogs) Itad any objection, to give his opinion in relation to the time when the price of the public lands might be reduced. We leamby a gentleman of this place, who arrived a few days since from Sliller county, that a citizen of that county had returned just before hestaited, from the provinc: of Texas, bringing information that great excitement prevailed throughout the several colonics in that country, w hen he left there, in consequence of the recent passage of a law by the Mexican government, for the IZmancifiatwi vf all the Slaves in the Province nf Texes, and that orders had been received, for carrying it into immediate effect.
