However, that which is apprehended sfco'uld be calculated upon, tho jt may not happen just now; and we should ill Unite to keep it off as long as weean so far as we rightfully may. Wc learn, from the N. Y. Daily Advertiser, that the gov. of Havana published a proclamation, on the 8th of April, prohibiting the importation of " all books which oppose the catholic religion, the royalty, rights and prerogatives of the sovereign, or which, in any other manner, defend the rebellion of vassals or nations." The masters and owners of vessels, as well as the proprietors of such property, and of immoral books, ficc. are rendered responsible, and will be required to pay triple the value, if it does not exceed two hundred dollars. Boring for water A spot of land near New Brunswick, N. J. belonging to Mr.
J. H. Bostwick, said to be the highest in
the neighborhood, has been bored, For wa
ter, to the depth of 250 feet, and, a week
or two since, the water rose one foot a-
bove the surface, and discharged itself at the rate of two gallons per minute. The workmen were going still deeper, St the quantity of water discharged was increasing. Niles. Seed Corn. A correspondent of the N. England Farmer speaks in strong terms of the benefit to be derived from soaking seed corn in a solution of copperas, as a
preventitive of destruction by worms He says that in a field planted with corn thus treated, scarcely a hill or even a spire was destroyed, although cut worms had been observed when it was ploughed. Many of his neighbors lost the whole of their fields, and some were under the necessity of replanting, while his remained uninjured. He used about a pound and a half of copperas, dissolved in warm water, for three pecks of corn, and let the corn soak full forty eight hours before planting. The subject is worth the attention of farmers. Wc have long thot' that stcr ping the seeds of radishes, Sec. in a strong solution of copperas, or perhaps mixing pulverized copperas with the soil, would effectually stop the ravages of the worm to which those vegetables have of late years been subject. The ar'icle is cheap Sc experiments might be easily made. The result should be communicated.

TheEditor of a Journal consisting entirely of selections from foreign Journals, may perhaps be allowed, without the imputation of vanity, to speak of the quality as well as the quantity, of the matter contained in his work. It isery evident that an abundance is offered to his choice, and as the Journals of G. It would seem then to be raw to compile from all these Journals, one which shall be superior to any one of them. TERMS OFSUiSCRIPTJO.Y.
