From the Sclem Gazel::. Another reicrted cnfiture. A lcttcr from Manilla, dated Oct. 1, brought br the Ganges, and icceivcd in this town, states, that an English vessel which had arrived at Manilla, from Singapore, reported that thc brig Leandcr, of Salem, hed been captured there by an English gun brig, and oi del cd lo Calcutta for adjudication. Thc Leandcr passed thc Stieightsof Simda, August 28, bound lo Canton, fc, we learn, had no merchandise onboard. Wc do not know on what pretence he could have been captured, and hope that thc repoit is cuonious. It will be recollected that a similar repoit was received a few weeks since, respecting the btig Gov. Indicolt, of this port ; and it is possible that the Manilla report originated in the detention of that vessel. Should it prove, however, that the Uritish are thus intei rnpting our commerce in the India Sc?, we hope our government will take thc matter into consult! ntion. Would it not be expedient to tend one or two of our idle ships into those f eas, to guard the interests, and pio'cct thc propcity of our riiizcr.s engaged in thc India trade a trfde of the utmost importance to the finances of the nation. The Mexican Government has prohibited ioicicm cssels from bcit engaged in thc coaming trade of that count! y.
