PIHACY AS IT RK.ALLY IS. We hive read a pamphlet of about fifty pages, entitled "A Narrative of the shipwreck of the bng Hctsey, of Wiscasset, and ni'irder of five of the crew, bv pirates, on the coast of Cuba, Dec. 18:4," which discloses scenes of horror and suffering that are almost incrcd ble. The author is Daniel Collins, one he only two survivors of the crew; and we are assured, bv persons of rcspectabilitv, that his relation is entitled to belief. It is well written; and as it is published for the benefit of an unfortunate seaman, we hope it will meet with a liberal sale. We annex a short extract, giving an account of thc murder of the writer's companions. v Washington Gazette. Q The seven pirates and four fish crman as before, now proceeded with us towards the beach, until the water was about three feet lrep, when they ail got out; the two fishermen to rac.li canoe, hauling us along, and the pirates walking by the. side of us. one to each ol our crew torturing us all the way by drawing their knives across our throats, grasping the same and pushing us back iinoj'r

Some of us were in the most humiliating manner beseeching of them to spare our lives, and others, with uplifted eye, were a pain supplicating that Divine mer cy which preserved them from the fury of the elements they Were singing and laughing, and occasionally telling us in broken Knglish. that "Americans weie very nood hcef for their knives."
Thus they proceeded with us nearly a mile from the vessel, which we were now loosing sight of by doubling a point at the en trance of the cove before described; and when within a few rods of its head, where we bad before

the rays of the sun and -the clear blue sky presented a scene too pure for deeds of darkness. Dm the lonely sheet of water, on which, side by side we lay. presented that hopeless prospect which is more ably described bv another; -"No friend, no refuse near; AH, all is falv and trcachnvu -(round; AH that thev touch, or taste, or hreath is. Death'" We bad scarcely passed the last nailing look at each other, when the w ork of death eommen ceil. They seized Captain lliltun
by the hair, bent bis bead and
shoulders over the gunwale, and I could distinctly hear them chop ping the bone of the neck. They then wrung his neck, separated the head from the body by a slight draw of the sword, and let it drop into the water there was a dying shriek a convulsive struggleand all I could discern was the arm dangling over the side of the canoe, and the ragged stump pouring out the blood like a torrent. There was an imploring look in the innocent and youthful face of "Mr. Merry, that would have anpcaled to the heart of any one but a pirate. As he arose on his kness. in the posture of a penitent, supplicating for mercy, even on the verge of eternity he was
prostrated with a blow of the cutlass, his bowels gushing out of the wound. They then pierced him through the breast in several pla res with a long knife, and cut his throat from ear to ear The captain's dog, repulsed in hi repeated attempts to rescue hi master, sat whining beside his lifeless body, looking up to these
It was on the following romantic story of the Southren Inlands, that Lord Byron was supposed to have founded his beautiful poem of Christian. A young chief discovered it accidentally while diving after a turtle, and the use which he made of his discovery will probably be sung in more than one European language so beautifully is it adapted to a tale in verse. "I did command it," said Ledvard, hut you do note," at the same time handing hi? sword The .llicer took it and stabbed Ledvard to the heart Thus fell this amiable and gallant officer. This was the signal for massacre, and many Americans were shot after the fort had surrendered. The remains of Ledvard now lie a short distance from the Fort, and, if we recollect righth, a small slab tells the spot where he reposes. Measures are now taking to celebrate the anniveisory of this battle, on the tjth of September next. The occasion will be interesting it will draw together many of the survivors of that memorable battle and the descendants of the slain We confidently hope from the hint which has been thrown out, that efforts will be made to erect a suitable monument to commemorate the ' taking of Groton Frt." will be abundantly successful Buffalo Emporium
