LATEST FROM SPAIN. The brig Catherine Rogers, arrived in New ork, in 30 days from Gibraltar, brings papers of that place of the 2d of September inclusive, from which it appears, that our doubts respecting the surrender of Corunna to the French, were well founded, notwithstanding the official bulletin, in the Paris papers, announcing that a convention had been signed on the 14th of August. Corunna as well as Cadiz continued faithful to the Constitution down to the beginning of September. The French had made some attempts a gainst Cadiz on the 25th August, but they were compelled to retire with considerable loss. A meeting of general officers and other persons of rank was about to be held, at which the Duke del Infantado was expected to be present. Notiiing is said about the bombardment. General Lauriston's division, which had proccded to TarifTa, had sustained some loss, which rendered it necessary for him to retire to Algesiras. A private letter, dated Gibraltar, September 3d, states the loss of the French in this repulse at 800 men. The writer add, "Malaga is in a dreadful state at present; the commander has made a requisition of 100,000 of the merchants several who refused to pay, have been sent to prison, among them the American Consul, and several have been shot. The English frigate Tribune is to proceed from here to bring the English merchants from that place. ' Sir Robert Wilson left Gibraltar for Malaga on the 2d of September; and on the preceding day Gen. Zayes and the other officers, who had been arrested by Ricgo and sent on ship board, arrived at Gibraltar. It thus appears by the latest accounts from the Peninsula, that there is no reason for believing that the French will succeed in their attempt to subjugate S;ai'i. On the contrary, the brave and determined resistance which they met with at every point, justifies the opinion we hae all along maintained, that the enemies of the Constitutional system will fail in tluir object Their career of bribery has apparently been arrested, and unless the Duke d'Angouleme is posscs4 sed of more skill than the former generals of France, we should not be surprised if, in a few days, he had concluded a treaty disgraceful to those who had placed him at the head of the expedition, or retraced his march across the Ebro. Eveng. Post. FROM CURRACOA. New York, Oot. 6 We have received ilic Curracoa Courant to the 30th of August, inclusive, but the papers are barren of interest. The paper of the 23d, is almost entirely devoted to the news from Maracaybo, preceding its final capitulation, and up to that time, with which our readers have long been acquainted. The articles of capitulation are given at length. The French frigates Thetis and ConStance, of 44 guns each, Commodore Bouganville, and captain St. Simon Rouvrav, had sailed from Curracoa for La Guayra. Letters from Margaritta stntc that the National ship Espcranza, of 64 guns, had arrived at that Island from Holland, having on board twenty thousand stand of arms, and ten thousand suits of clothing for the army. This is one of the vessels purchased for the Republic, by the de ceased Mr. Zoa, and if she corresponds in equipment and other essentials to her sixe, we doubt not that the means are in the hands of the republicans of annihilating the naval force of the enemy. The frigate Venezuela sailed on the 14th of August, from La Guayra, to join the Espcranza, at Margarita. The barque Charles, of 18 guns, from England, arrived at La Guayra on the 17 of uguM, for accounts of the Colombian government. This is the same vessel which, our readers may recollect, arrived in La Guayra some months ago, and which, on account of some misun derstanding, was sent back. These are reported to be two very fine vessels, but weakly manned. The Courant of the 30th of August contains extract? from the journal of the Colombian squadron, giving the particulars of the naval engagement in the La goon of Maracaybo, which preceeded the surrender of Morales, which is summed Up as follows; "In this glorious and memorable action vrc have lost eight officers and 36 soldiers and sailors killed, and 14 of the first, and 115 of the latter wounded, and one officer bruised; while the enemy have lost the frightful uumbcr of more than 8K) between the one and the other, besides 69 officers and 369 soldiers and sailors prisoners in our possession, 8 of the former and 10 of the latter wounded.

Nfcw York, Oct. 7. ,The James Cropper arrived last evening in 29 days from Liverpool. The dates of her papers are the same as those brought by the Lallah Rookh, to Charleston. M. Hyde de Neuville has arrived at Lisbon as Erench ambassador to Portugal. Those two courts seem to have a perfect understanding: the latter has furnished a quota of ships to aid in the blockade of Cadiz, (which is now to be

turned into a siege, and the city to be nr
