uum gcuing wnnout, or tne air or water within, by tying cloths over them, 5c putting on a plate or small waiter, with weight thereon, so as to keep it entiiely secure from either ; then set the jar into a large pot or kettle of water, up to, or near its neck, but by no means so as that a drop of water may eret over into its mouth ; then slowly boil it until the leaves are completely wilted; when that is done, take the jars out and set them away with their covers securely on until they get, with their contents, perfectly cool ; then take out the leaves, with the liquid substance, (if any) & put the whole together in equal quantities, into large dishes, to dry in the shade, as before recited, say in a room, on tables, as clear of wind or air as possible, ofu n stirring the leaves, so as for them to absorb the liquid (if any) and dry with expedition. When thoroughly done, they should be immediately cannisteied up, and are then fit for use. 14 The writer of this article, has for some years past, successfully cultivated and cured in this country, the above'p'ant from seed, which he himself obtainttfm the East Indies, and there need not remain the least sort of doubt but that it wilt prosper and do well in any part of the U. States, as the seed which falls from the plant, or otherwise will stand the winter of this climate, and come up in the spring. But the most advisable way is to gather the seed in the fall 5c sow them in the spring, in small drills of good fine rich earth, about three feet wide, from which you can draw out in a wet season, A transplant as other plants say as soon as three leaves appear on the plant, and
