A general meeting of tbo citizens of
tbc county is requested at the court house
in Vincennes, on tbc evening ot the 4tr.
Mo uiay in this month, upon subjects el a "general concern. September, 1822. n;i,r ' " communicated. In last weeks Wcsicrn Sun, a meeting of the citizens ot this couiVyis requested on tbc 4th Monday of this month The object is stated to be subjects of a general concern" and none is particularized. Now as some of my neighbours think with me, that the subjects of consideration should have been specified, I just thought I would telJ you so. The citizens who only know of such a meeting by the notice you have published, may be called upon to act
promptly, upon such views of matters
nu. borne ot the erass fields aDDcar as
if fire had passed over them. The Arkansas river is said to be navigable for the usual sizjd steam boats of the western waters, the distance of 1000 miles from the Mississippi! It has been ascended by one of them several times, more than 500. The U. S. troops at Fort Smith, on this river, arc remarkably healthy. Phtladi Iphia, Augst 20. A company of German emigrants, eighty-four in number, passed through this city on Sunday morning on their way to Ohio. We
are informed that they profess the Jewish ! faith, but what is most remarkable is, they all make up one family, consisting of grandfathers, grandmothers, sons, daughters, sons in taw, daughters in law, grandchildren, Sec all connected. They appear to be rich for settlers, having brought with them from Germany, waggons, haincss, and v arious kinds of goods, wares, and merchandise, suflkient to fill ten baggage waggons. In two of the waggons, it must however be observed, they tound room to deposite the children. The men and women trudged on foot. The lomr beards, broad rimmed hats,
small cloths, and short coats of the for- j mer, with the drugget bed gowns and
red under dress of the la ter, gave the whole groupe a singularity of aspect, such as was well calculated to arrest the attention of the passing traveller. Union. Charleston April, 12. A young man
