Treasury Ziotes. The Treasury notes authorised by the Legislature last session, have arrived, an J are now beginning" to circulate. They appear to be well executed to prevent" counterfeiting:. What credit they may obtain depends upon future experiment. At present they pass current here, and most probably will continue so, as we have understood they are received at the branch bank in this place. It may be that their credit will rise above a par withjjranch paper towards the approach of the sales at Indianapolis, as they will Vbc equal to specie in the payments there, and they likewise have the faith of the state pledged for their redemption, and s4lbe received for taxes. ib. A'etvsfiaier in Florida. Messrs. R. W. lidos, & Co. hare issued proposals for the publication of a weekly paper, in the town of St. Augustine, to be entitled the "Florida Gazette." Xat- Int. qucstitn, whether wc ought to manuf cturc for ourselves or depend upon foreign importations, than is to be found in the following at tide i The ship Magdalen arrived at NewYork some years since from Calcutta,

with upwards of 1400 bales of cotton piece goods. The cargo comprised 140,000 pieces of goods, averaging 17 yards each piece, seven-eights of a yard wide, making 2,380,000 yards. A cotton factory of lbuO spindles, at Paterson, in New-Jersey, produced, during the last three months, 85 bales of sheetings and shurtings, each bale contained 30 pieces of about 30 yards each, is 306,000 yards. There arc 9 factories at Paterson, which are computed to contain 12,600 spindles, which, at the same ratio, would in a year produce 2.142,000 yards of cloth, being 1 3 1,000 yards less than the cargo of one ship. The above factory of 1800 spindles employed in and out of doors 109 men, women, and children. At the -same rate, the nint mills give employment to 663 persons and indeed, directly or indirectly they employed the whole population of tho village. The ship probably employed 16 men and boys. The ship took specie to pay for goods manufactured by foreigners, of foreign materials. Our factories spin the product of our soil employ our own citi. sens whose earnings go to purchase the produce of tht) farmers. Is comment necessary ? Patron of Industry. Tht Rustian American company has received intelligence from their cololy at Sitka, hich states that thorc art Russian families in the North of Behiing's Straits, under 67 north latitude, whose ancestors were driven there, by a storm, above a century ago. Tho Directors of the company expect in a short time a circumstantial account of this remarkable occurrence. LATEST FROM BUENOS AYRES.

'A man of war brig was immediately dispatched to them, to give them notice that no preposition will be received by this government, unless founded on the acknowledgment of our independence ; and thatnobo'ly will be allowed to land from their vessel, except such are their powers. We have finally made peace with Santa Fe, according to which the Congress is to meet at Cordova in two months, and to this Congress is reserved the settlement of all our differences Pur Jatesl accounts from Chiii are to the 13&of October Valparaiso has been macfra free port for the transit of goods. The double duties in Chili have also bd? boiiihed, so that all goods now pay 34 per cent, except jetl-y, bee silk handkerchiefs, Sec. which pay only 15 per cent. One was a tavorite of the people, who wis cd to clvate him ; but the lawful htir was said to be a fool, and unworth the high office. MUMMIES. Some Arabs, who were digging near Gourna, in Thebes, during the month of September last, discovered a tomb containing 12 cases of mummies. On one of them was the following inscription in Greek : "The tomb of Tyhon, son tf HeractiUs Soter and Sanaposis. He was born on the second day of Athurinthe fifth year of Adrian, our Lord. He died on tht 20th of the month Machier, the 1 1th year of the same (Lord) at the age six years, two months, and twenty days." As Adrian commenced his reign in the 117th year of tho Christian era, the inscription is 169 1 years old.

The extensive printing establishment on Copperas hill, England, has been destroyed by fire. The stock and premises were insured for 36,000 pounds sterling, (or SI 60 840,) but it was not known that this sum would cover the actual loss. Upwards of 100 men were thrown out of employ by this disaster. From Canton In addition to the Marine news per ship Levant, we have tht following particulars from 1 of her mates.
