PROPOSALS FOR. PUBLISHING BY SUBSCRIPTION THE SECO. D EDITIO.Y OF THE GEOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF THE WESTERN COUNTRY, Being the result ol the travels, extensive researches and remarks of EDMUND DANA, who was commissioned as agent, to explore and select from the Public Lands, the mot eligible situations for AGRICULTURE COMMERCE, with a view to make locations and purchases. The curious and interesting facts collected by the author, in surveying these rude scenes of Nature, so lately the haunt of the untutored Savage, have accumulated to the size of two volumes. This work is intended as a guide to emigrants, who are seeking how to better their condition hy traversing sea and land thousands of miles, to gain a new home, where a more temperate climate and fertile soil, confers health and plenty Also, for schools. The intention of the author, in the first volume, is to give a general view of the whole western country, from the Allegheny Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Also, the boundaries and latitudes of the British and Spanish dominions in the preliminary remarks After the ormer, will be given a more compendous geographical description of the western country, as delineated and parcelled off into sepcrate states and territories, by the acts of Congress. And also, a description of the respective parts of the unsettled and unsold public lands and late surveys, in the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Arkensaw, Missouri, and Michigan territories including lands designated by the Spanish and French for donations, but not called for, and a brief account of the Canals now opening, and in contemplation to connect the waters of the great Western Lakes, with the Mississippi and Hudson rivers. Also will be added the Census for 1820 of the United States and territories and the latitudes of each state. The attention ot the author in the first volume has been chiefly confined toobiects which
