The curious and interesting facts collected by the author, in surveying ihese rude scenes of Nature, so lately the haunt of the untutored Savage, have accumulated to the size of two
volumes.
This work is intended as a guide to emigrants, who are seeking how to better their condi
tion by traversing sea and land thousands of miles, to gain a new home, where a more temperate climate a.'id fertile soil, confers health and plenty Also, for schools.
The intention of the author, in the first volu ne, is to give a general view of the whole west
ern country, from the Allegheny Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Also, the boundaries

now opening, and in contemplation to connect the waters of the great Western Lakes, with
the Mississippi and Hudson rivers. Also will be added the Census for 1820 of the UnheJ
States and territories and the latitudes of each state. The attention of the author in the first volume has been chiefly confined to objects which

a market mines and fossils.
Indeed, the author has endeavoured in his researches and remarks, to truly present, principally from his own personal and critical observations, the peculiar privileges and advantages naturally attached to the respective parts of the Western Country. The second volume will contain a complete and correct description of the Military Ho::nty Lands in Illinois c Missouri, collected from personal observations and actual survey and a map taken from the same, designating sections the author having lived on and explored those 'ands one year. Abo, a particular description of the fractional sections which lie on the p.Iississippi and Illinois rivers they being the most importani part of the lands in the trad, and will be sold like other Congress lands. On these fractional sections are the principal seites for towns, Mills and Ferries within the military tract Also, those sections which have on them minerals and salt springs, will be particularly designated. There will be added to this work, a litof the principal roads and routs by land and water extending, from the provinces of New-Brunswick, and Nova M'otia, through the United States and its Territories, to the Pacific Ocean embracing the main interior cross roads, between the towns and places of most note. Also, will be added, the numerous tri'e ol Indian:?, a ;d their manners and worship, w est of the Allegheny Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, and numbers of souls, as far as can be obtained from every authentic source.
