Jrd.vj.v;,- Gazette We ac highly gratified in anivauno in ; the arrival at this pVice, ubmtlo o'clock Ian ni;;ht, of tlie new and elegant Steamboat Com::t Opt dn li;rie, from New Orians, in eiht d eys from port to poit, and 14 J running hours. Hie Comet is the first steam-boat that has ever ascended the Aarka.isii. Much credit is certainly due Captain IUrne for this enterprise, and we hop: it may prove as lucrative to him as it is gratifying to our ciliizens. Notwithstanding the lateness of the hour at which she arrive 1, many of our citizens assembled on the banks of the river, to testify their joy and threat her with a hearty welcome, on her approach to the landing. The Comet entered the mouth of the Arkansas vesterdivat 12 o'clock in the first of the evening she accidentally ran a ground, in consequence of the datkness of the night, and was detained about t vo h )Urs, but received no injury, it must ceriainK' be gratifying to every citizen of thi Territory, to learn that thus far the Aarkansas atfjrds no obstructions to steam-boat navigation. i5. The House of Representatives yestcrday decided, su'j by a de cided majority, against a postponement to t';3 next session of a revision of the Tarilf of Duties 6a imports. A motion was immediately laid on the table, ! -joking to a System of Internal Taxation. We do not consider the decision abive mentioned, as conclusive of the intention of the House of Representatives finally to act on the bill, during the session, but as expressive ol their de-ire to do so. I Hi; TEXAS EXPEDITION. It would seem from the follow ing pavagiapn fiom the Mississippi Republican, ol the 1 uh Jan. 'hat the so-much-t Ukeil-of Expedition against Texas, has not been abandoned that their prospects of success are more flattering than at their first onset a. id that the state of of their funds will permit them to go on with more confidence than formerly. We learn from good authority that the Texas expeuition has not been abandoned, as is generally believed ; but that it will be continued and conducted with more than ordinary spirit that the prospects o t success arc now more flattering than they ever have been that arrangements have been made for obtaining ample funds to enable the expedition t. proceed w ith confidence. The celebrated Lafitti:- now governor of ialveston, is concerned in the enterprize. General Long, we understand)' is on business at New Orleans, and General Walkeh is here r Natchez,"; We have been at some trouble in making inquires relative to this expedition, which has made so much noise for several months past and from the best information wc can gain, we believe that Gen, Long's prospects ofsucces, and his credit also, are at their lowc-t ebb. A week or two ago we conversed with a gentleman direct from Natchitochez, where he resides. He states that he saw and conversed with Gen. Long the nignt before he left that place, ( which we believe was about the 1st Feb. ) The General was then endeavoring to raise recruits, to renew hi s expedition ; but had met w ith no success. Even those who were with him previous to his defeat, refused to follow him again. As for Gen. Long's credit, our informal. t says he had none at the above place, and it was the general belief there that his credit was equally lew at all other places w here he was know n in fact, he was obliged to keep him self hid m toe dav time, from a fear of being apprehended by the sheriff, who was on the lock out for him. The people on the American side of the Sabine are very much onnosed to this expedition they say say that they had rather have the Spaniards for neighbors, than Gen. Long's party, who they represent only as trtebootets and re::eido Americans, w hose only object is plunder and rapine. The settlement of Nacagdotch.cz was entirely broken up, and the houses burnt, bv tlie Spanish force who dispersed Gen. Losg's party. Several prisoneis were also taken, and canied od' in chains, by the C'paniards. - Ark. Gaz. FROM SPANISH AMERKA.
